- The list will not be exhaustive and you are free to add any more obscure songs on your personal list released up to that date or songs contemporaneously charting on international charts. If you do I would appreciate any links to evidence the release date or chart history to update the archive.

- You are free to use your own personal charts from the time (if you have them) or create an updated list for this chart.

- Please rank your songs from your favourite downwards. (eg #1 down to #100). Your #1 gets 100 points, #2 gets 99 points etc

- The weekly PJOPS Retrochart is compiled from accumulated points each week.

- It would be fantastic if you could regularly contribute lists but understandably there may be weeks you can not. If someone fails to contribute towards a weekly chart their previous week’s choices will be frozen and contribute to the chart but the points will be halved. This is to prevent wild fluctuations in chart positions depending on contributions.

- There are no tied positions and in the event of a points tie the song gaining most points or losing fewer points will chart higher.

Kajagoogoo are still at No 1 but the single is in decline and sold 92,000 copies last week, a decrease of 9%, the track has now sold 355,000 still an unimpressive total for a No 1 single which is already in reverse sales wise, perhaps the notoriously fickle teenage girl market has had enough?

The band were under pressure from Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" which continues to impress 5-2 (81,000), its sales hike of 86% also suggests that he could be heading for No 1 given that that performance was in spite of no TOTP not because of it. Matters aren't quite so clear however given that Toto continue to chase Jackson as for a third week the two tracks are inseparable position wise as "Africa" moves 6-3 on a sales increase of 70% to 74,000- both should see some TOTP action this week so it's anyone's call. Furthermore spare a thought for Tears For Fears who sell 71,000 (an increase of 55% thanks to the show) yet can't move on the charts at No 4, the school holidays helped as well.

Joining Culture Club and Duran Duran in the US top 10 this week (in something amounting to the famed second British Invasion) Musical Youth are back in the UK top 10 too thanks to "Never Gonna Give You Up" which heads 16-8 (38,000). Their follow up to the chart topping "Pass The Dutchie" was of course "Youth Of Today" which disappointed at No 13 at the end of last year but they seem to have their chart fortunes back on the right course.

The best selling band of the decade are back with their 13th top 10 smash from 15 releases, yes you can't hold back Madness. Double A-Side "Tomorrow's Just Another Day/ Madness Is All In The Mind" flies 24-9 (37,000), a second top 10 single from the album "Rise & Fall", additional sales have come from a 12" version which features a certain Elvis Costello on vocals on "Madness"!

Elsewhere Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker spend a third week at No 7 (41,000) while three tracks head south, Belle Stars 3-5 (65,000), Men At Work 2-6 (64,000) and Wham! recede 8-10 (36,000)
