Popjustice Retrochart - November 1982 - w/e 13/11/82

Kim Wilde is doing well! She's gone top ten with everything for me except this one which stalled at #40…. Maybe she's going to be a bit hit and miss for me in future?

Looks like Warwick, Jackson and Gaye are struggling so far. The big US acts not doing so well with you?

At the time I thought this track was from a TV series...I think there was a drama about a young girl running away from home....but obviously they weren't connected...but I liked the weird, almost sci-fi vibe to the music. As if the girl in the song had been abducted by aliens, or seen a UFO. Of cousre, it's probably about a paedophile or a child molester, but I didn't know what those were in 1982.

Yeah, I hadn't clicked with the slicker, US-oriented AOR and soul...it was all too "grown up" for me. I didn't have any time for middle aged women singing about heartbreak, or blokes going on about sexual healing, baby.....ugh!

Paul McCartney just missed out having his first top ten hit with Stevie Wonder earlier this year stalling at #11 with Ebony & Ivory but he later hit #1 with solo hit Take It Away. He's back in the top ten yet again with Michael Jackson. This is the rather low-key debut single from his forthcoming album.

ABBA ascend to the summit with surprising ease and a very comfortable margin that, if maintained, could see out a few weeks yet! This means they have now chalked up three chart toppers, one in each of the last three calendar years, with a combined total of 10 weeks at the summit more than any other act other than David Bowie (who managed his total of 10 weeks only with the additional help of Queen).

Donna Summer continues to be a consistent top ten hit maker on the retrochart vaulting 20-5 this week.
11/20 Spoiler Alert:This song, along with Get Up And Go, What's Forever For, & You Can Do Magic, fall into a death spiral, that will rock my chart to it's very core. (in other words..over 40 places)

Yeah I noticed she plummets next week. Only a week in the retrochart top ten perhaps? You do often have some big fallers but was there any particular reason for them to all drop so much on 20/11?
