- Your #1 gets 100 points, #2 gets 99 points etc

- The weekly PJOPS Retrochart is compiled from accumulated points each week.

- It would be fantastic if you could regularly contribute lists but understandably there may be weeks you can not. If someone fails to contribute towards a weekly chart their previous week’s choices will be frozen and contribute to the chart but the points will be halved. This is to prevent wild fluctuations in chart positions depending on contributions.

"Seven Tears" is still atop of the charts this week but it's retreating sales wise almost immediately, it shifted a further 130,000 copies to bring the title's total to 486,000 after just 6 weeks, nothing to be sniffed at.

The track can also celebrate entering the YTD top 10 and as we're now at the end of Quarter one here's the top 10 best sellers of the first 1/4 of 1982:

2- TOWN CALLED MALICE/ PRECIOUS 672,000
3- GOLDEN BROWN 627,000
4- THE MODEL/ COMPUTER LOVE- Kraftwerk 533,000
5- LOVE PLUS ONE- Haircut 100 530,000
6- OH JULIE- Shakin Stevens 523,000
7- MICKEY- Toni Basil 518,000
8- SEVEN TEARS- Goombay Dance Band 486,000
9- CENTERFOLD- J Geils Band 405,000
10- THE LAND OF MAKE BELIEVE- Bucks Fizz 394,000

You'll note Goombay Dance Band's YTD position of No 8, but it's still way behind Tight Fit who look set for the million as sales top 920,000 as it slides 2-6 (62,000) and all depends on a slow descent for the track.

Also in the top 10 YTD are Bucks Fizz who are back in the weekly top 10 today with the follow up to "Land Of Make Believe" called "My Camera Never Lies". Debuting last week at No 33 it rockets to No 5 on a sale of 64,000 copies and becomes the second fastest selling single of their brief one year career so far naturally behind "Making Your Mind Up", their second album "Are You Ready" is due later this month and will contain both of their last two tracks. It seems the band are building on that initial Eurovision victory.

It's now been over a year since Chas & Dave scored their first top 10 hit with "Rabbit" but the wait is over as this week "Ain't No Pleasing You" jumps 14-7 (56,000) to beat their previous best chart position attained by the aforementioned "Rabbit" of No 8 in Jan 1981.

Knocking around since 1974 it took until 1980 for Japan to score their first hit single "Gentlemen Take Polaroids" (No 60) and now a further 3 years to score their first top 10 single "Ghosts" as it jolts 16-9 (47,000). The group have been garnering considerable press recently for their looks and presentation but there is clearly some good music on offer as well as we can see, the parent album "Tin Drum" peaked at No 12 upon release back in November but it re-climbs this week to No 13, tantalisingly close to re-peaking.

Away from the new entries and Imagination are now within touching distance of that elusive No 1 spot with "Just An Illusion" climbing 4-2 (95,000) thanks to TOTP, and a similar story for Derek & The Dominoes as "Layla" leaps 7-4 (69,000). Julio Iglesias meanwhile stumbles at No 3 (72,000) whilst ABC tumble 6-8 (49,000) and the Associates drop 9-10 (44,000)

THE EG RETROCHART TOP 40: Week Ending 3rd April 1982

EG's Chartdust: ABC and Imagination remain at #1 and #2, but look who's wasted no time at all in climbing to #3. Bucks Fizz are now on course for a third EG chart-topper out of 5 releases since bursting onto the scene less than a year ago with Making Your Mind Up. Japan are still in with a ghost of a chance, as they move from 16 to 5, while Altered Images came close with their last two hits (I Could Be Happy and Happy Birthday) so we shall have to see what unfolds.

Dollar are another act to now have a trio of Retrochart hits in a short space of time, and Give Me Back Your Heart may have got off to a slower start than some of its rivals, advancing 8 places to #11, but they too could still mount a challenge. :Likewise the latest from pop icons Roxy Music, who continue their renaissance with yet another instant classic that debuts highest of all this week at #13. Shakatak espouse the increasingly popular wine-bar pop sound better than most, and follow-up the slow burning Top 10 success of Easier Said Than Done with an immediate entry to the Top 20 with Night Birds.
