    Cubfile:
ABC make it two weeks at the summit with “Poison Arrow” but they’d better watch out as The Associates are climbing fast from 9 to 2 this week with “Party Fears Two”, also climbing are The Fun Boy Three with Bananarama, Bow Wow Wow and Depeche Mode. Toni Basil is stuck at Number 4 with “Mickey”, meanwhile heading down are Haircut 100, The Jam, Soft Cell and Hall & Oates.
The highest new entry comes from Visage, who are currently recording their second album. The single is called “The damned don’t cry”
Dollar remain the longest runner on the chart with “Mirror Mirror” dropping two places to Number 50 this week after 18 weeks on the chart.

Next Week could see new entries from:
Japan and The Boomtown Rats – stay tuned!

  7. Hang on!

Now there's FIVE of them again.

There's only 4 in the video (and on the album cover).

I don't know much about the Nolans - I tried to read about the line up changes and it made my head hurt. They all look too similar aswell so I don't know which is which half the time.

  8. Just finalising my top 40.

So after finding out through this retrochart that I am an early Depeche Mode stan and a Hall & Oates stan and a B-52s stan and a Robert Palmer stan and a John Cougar Mellencamp stan…. I'm realising Rod bloody Stewart is racking up the hits too!

  11. Rod Stewart did some great singles in the 80's - the best is yet to come for me.
Elton John's biggest 80's hit for me is coming very soon...!
DM's "A broken frame" singles are their weakest of the decade for me! "See you" made the top 10 but will the next two?
Hall and Oates will get stronger and stronger through 82/83/84 for me!

  14. THE EG RETROCHART TOP 40: Week Ending 13th March 1982
    [IMG]

EG's Chartdust: A chart first this week, as Soft Cell rebound to take the #1 spot back from The Jam. In truth there has been very little between the two singles over the past month, and with no obvious challengers in sight Say Hello Wave Goodbye could reign for more than the 7 days that either it or Tainted Love previously managed. ABC and Imagination make the most notable moves this week, and both are looking to have an outside chance of #1 themselves. Adam & The Ants scrape into the Top 10 with an old, pre-fame release, but Madness and Kraftwerk go into reverse after peaking at #15 and #13 respectively. Other former chart heavyweights Gary Numan (only up 8 to #13) and ABBA (limping to #17) are also finding it tough going. Is change in the air?

    Hairycub1969 and phoenix123 like this.
  15. Definitely feels like a change is occurring. ABBA suddenly look very dated. The remnants of 70s US soft rock/pop seems to be dying off.

Lots of new british bands making fresh music (and videos) like ABC, Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, Haircut 100.

    The only thing confusing me.

Where are music pioneers The Goombay Dance Band on your charts?

Hairycub1969 and Eric Generic like this.
  16. It's the never-ending cycle of pop, I suppose. Just as Adam Ant looked and sounded horribly out of date by 1984, ABBA had the same thing happen to them by 1982, when a couple of years earlier they still seemed to be at their commercial peak. Both were written out of contemporary pop history with indecent haste at the time. ABBA got their renaissance a decade later of course (and then some!), but poor Mr Ant doesn't get much recognition beyond the pages of Classic Pop magazine.

New to the ten are the Nolans with their biggest hit yet moving 13-8. Olivia Newton-John makes it a third top ten hit in a row from current album Physical and eurocrooners Goombay Dance Band vault 20-9.
