- You are free to use your own personal charts from the time (if you have them) or create an updated list for this chart.

- Please rank your songs from your favourite downwards. (eg #1 down to #100)

- Your #1 gets 100 points, #2 gets 99 points etc

- The weekly PJOPS Retrochart is compiled from accumulated points each week.

- It would be fantastic if you could regularly contribute lists but understandably there may be weeks you can not. If someone fails to contribute towards a weekly chart their previous week’s choices will be frozen and contribute to the chart but the points will be halved. This is to prevent wild fluctuations in chart positions depending on contributions.

An entirely static top 3 for the first time in the 80s this week (except for the frozen week over New Year) sees Adam and the Ants, Shakin' Stevens, and Starsound form a barrier to all other tracks. The three tracks are racking up impressive sales between them with "Stand And Deliver" now on 483,000 (154,000 last week), "You Drive Me Crazy" on 320,000 (135,000 last week- a new 1981 high for the position) and "Stars On 45" racking up a further 97,000 to bring the tally to 401,000.

The rest of the top ten are languishing far behind, so badly that though Kim Wilde accelerates 9-4 she is over 30,000 behind Starsound on 65,000, with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club chasing her 8-5 (63,000) off the back of their victory over Manchester City in the FA cup final last Thursday, and Tenpole Tudor following suit 10-6 (56,000).

No 1 in the US this week is Kim Carnes with her cover of the 1974 Jackie DeShannon track "Bette Davis Eyes, and the track looks like it could be heading to the top here as it shoots 20-10 (35,000). The track has been substantively altered into its current arrangement but the film star who it name checks is rumoured to be very happy with Carnes' version.

REO Speedwagon hold at No 7 this week frustratingly (46,000) whilst Madness and Ennio Morricone both struggle to stay in the top 10 dropping 4-8 (39,000) and 5-9 (38,000) respectively.

Teardrop Explodes and Kim Wilde successfully follow-up major breakthrough hits, while Toyah (28-17) and Duran Duran (31-18) will be hoping for the same in future weeks. Talking Heads' own attempt to emulate the #2 peak of their last single finally appears with House In Motion new at #23.
