A very healthy climb for Irene Cara as this track is the first GOLD certified hit for 2 months. A potential number one?

Paul McCartney has had four previous top twenty hits, with the best performer Ebony & Ivory hitting #11 earlier this year. His latest single is far and away his biggest retrochart hit so far and even challenges for the top this week.

Chartfile: W/e 24th July 1982

The Steve Miller Band make it two weeks at the top with "Abracadabra" but all the songs from 2 to 5 are climbing this week and could topple them: Paul McCartney, Donna Summer, Irene Cara and Bananarama. Also climbing inside the top ten are Dexys Midnight Runners and Yazoo. Heading down are Dollar, Roxy Music, whereas "Rock the Casbah" by The Clash rebounds back into the top ten! Who will be Number One next week? Only @phoenix123 has the answer - stay tuned!

This is where the Retrochart can sometimes throw up an anomaly.....a single which is no higher than #9 on anybody's charts can be #2 overall.

"Talk it away" is what I call a sleeper Paul McCartney single....not immediately but it grows on you!

I had never heard of it until a few weeks ago! Yes it's definitely a sleeper on my chart it's gone 74-62-47-34 so far. The video looks like a lot of effort has gone into it for 1982 aswell. I particularly like the "Lonely driver…." bit where the camera pans up from the wheel across the bonnet and then cuts to John Hurt inside the car. That bit looks very cinematic for a music video of the time.

Probably recorded at George Martin's AIR studios in the Caribbean too (where the Police made their early 80s albums)?

Yes - "Ghost in the Machine" is my personal fave album of theirs and was recorded there in the Summer of 1981.

"Take it away" has a number of guest stars in the video as well as John Hurt, there's Ringo Starr and George Martin!
Edit: Both Ringo and George play on the single. George indeed produced it and it was recorded at AIR studios!
