Vetoed for chart success.

I feared I'd made that a bit too obviously my entry. Apparently not! The
official music video butchers the song, and there wasn't the usual auto-upload of just the audio, so I had to take matters into my own hands again.
Like I ended up doing with CSS, I submitted Sparks as technical contest virgins – veterans of Retro and 00s, but never competed here. Though I remember being shocked when I learned they passed veto in the other contests – occasional chart success notwithstanding, it feels like a weird anomaly of the universe that they don't have a 2000-page Popjustice thread. Like is this a pop music forum or not?
I put too much thought into the choice of Sparks song given how doomed it was with PJSC's more stringent veto panel – I only looked at their material from 2015 onwards to avoid the territory covered by other contests, and skipped all their album tracks (I know one was vetoed before for being from a top 10 album, and all their latest albums have gone top 10). But then that still leaves e.g.
Your Fandango with Todd Rundgren (I don't suppose Sparks
technically being the feature here makes it veto-friendlier...?), and the entire Annette soundtrack (I gave serious consideration to the 93-second-long
He Is a Murderer!, and even more serious consideration to
You Used to Laugh – I reluctantly concluded it wouldn't be a great advert for Sparks if I was like "Check out Sparks! Here's a song which is just them on backing vocals while Adam Driver screams profanities").
But The Final Derriere is one of the most beautiful and poignant songs I've ever heard about being so obsessed with ass you get multiple lobotomies, and probably obscure enough to be the final word on their veto chances here. If this didn't make it, no Sparks will. And fair enough! Pop legends! 2000-page thread when?
