Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize 2011 Rate! RESULTS!

Discussion in 'Charts, rates etc' started by Blob, Sep 8, 2011.

  1. So the ceremony has been and gone. But it seems that the forum users of Popjustice weren't very happy with the result (oh well).

Anyway; this was supposed to be done before the event (but lack of time on my part stopped this. Apol's etc). But we'll do it now and we can contrast to how things played out on the night!!

Below is a list of the songs that were in the running for the prize. It's your job to rate them out of 10 and send me some scores. Voting will close on Thursday 15th September to give you all some time to play the songs and rate them.

Here are the the songs in question with youtube links.

    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYEDA3JcQqw&ob=av2e">Adele- Rolling In The Deep</a>
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nP3XB7hrFo&ob=av2e">Hurts- Stay</a>
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOf3kYtwASo&ob=av2e">Jessie J- Do It Like A Dude</a>
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_J-ZzSKNW_8&ob=av2e">Joe McElderry- Ambitions</a>
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAZv7V4gkGs&ob=av2n">Mark Ronson & The Business Intl Ft. Boy George- Somebody To Love Me</a>
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9nda8X6sOU">Nadia Oh- Taking Over The Dancefloor</a>
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_BG3n1q5KU&ob=av2e">Nicola Roberts- Beat Of My Drum</a>
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEnz3r2F-Bw&ob=av2e">The Saturdays- Higher</a>
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kr3Mn2s0YYA">Sunday Girl- Stop Hey</a>
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCHg5r6rFoI&ob=av2e">Take That- The Flood</a>
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oPddS8HujA&ob=av2n">The Wanted- All Time Low</a>
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HO-E0mlmEc">Yasmin- Finish Line</a>

One other thing to remember (and discuss maybe) these are supposed to be the best singles of 2011, not the best songs. But I think in relation to the rate we should vote on the greatness as a song, not as a single. Agreed? Beautiful.

Here's another list of video's! These are for those artists who refuse to make a video where you're able to listen to the whole song or those who's video has lots of other noise (in the case of The Saturdays the noise is entirely your opinion, Flo-rida or Una's middle eight).

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YPKUlNvTww">Mark Ronson & The Business Intl Ft. Boy George- Somebody To Love Me</a>
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFqE_9Mw_Lc">Nadia Oh- Taking Over The Dancefloor</a>
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35LA3Rb6VOQ">The Saturdays- Higher Ft. Flo-Rida</a>

Disclaimer; The Jessie J video is the 'explicit' version, so be careful boys and girls when listening infront of your Mum, Dad, Nan or any one that gets offended by lesbians.

Good Luck with the rates and as usual remember to PM your votes to me by Thursday 15th September.

    Katy B - Broken Record - 1000000/10

  3. Re: Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize 2011 rate!

You finally have flawless taste in a singles rate!

  4. Re: Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize 2011 rate!

Meh. I gave one 10 and 2 9s. The average score was 5.5 which sums up what a shit list that is for me. If 'Finish Line' - i.e. The best British pop song of the past 10 years - does not win, I shall not be happy.

I also gave one well deserved zero...

The song that won the real thing should win this. Adele and Take that should do well too.

This should be very interesting. Thanks for doing this Blob.

  7. Re: Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize 2011 rate!

Nicola Roberts - Beat of My Drum ∞/10

  8. Re: Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize 2011 rate!

Are we able to give negative scores? I'm pretty sure Jessie J & Do It Like A Dude qualify for a -10/10.

    Kidding of course, but... seriously...

Re: Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize 2011 rate!

Well, I tried to be a little less boring with my votes, because thusfar I pretty much always just gave 7s and 8s. Two below 6 grades here, highest two 9,5s.

  10. Re: Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize 2011 rate!

Yasmin's Finish Line is flawless. Taking Over The Dancefloor is killa, and Beat of My Drum is crazy fun.

So... in other words... go Yasmin, Nadia, and Nicola!

  11. Re: Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize 2011 rate!

They got my 3 lowest scores.

  12. Re: Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize 2011 rate!

If it was Lucky Day, I'd be championing Nicola, but I can't stand Beat of my Drum.

  13. Re: Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize 2011 rate!

Time to show my approval of the real competition.

  14. Re: Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize 2011 rate!

My average was 6.6 - fairly generous. Three fantastic songs, two good ones and... the rest.

  15. Re: Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize 2011 rate!

Best songs are (in order) Nicola, The Sats, Nadia Oh, Take That/Sunday Girl.
