The use of 'Everytime' in 'Spring Breakers' and discussion of the 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' finale and its wonderful use of No Doubt's 'Running' have inspired this train of thought. What uses of popular music within film/television etc. do you particularly love?
Sarah McLachlan - Full Of Grace [Buffy S2 finale 'Becoming'] and i bloody love the use of 'Army Of Me' in Sucker Punch.
I Don't Want to Wait being the theme song to Dawson's Creek. And to think they wanted to use Hand in My Pocket instead (which wouldn't have been a terrible choice, actually).
Sia's 'Breathe Me' during the finale of Six Feet Under. It's been used in other things since and always makes a little bit sad because they aren't as good.
There was a brilliant scene in Coronation Street a couple of years ago with the factory girls singing along to Sugababes or something like that on the radio while they were sewing knickers.
The split second use of PSB's 'West End Girls' in that episode of American Dad when Hailey and Steve break up a couple so they could have them.
Take A Bow at the end of Season 2(?) of Friends where Ross comes back with that woman at the airport and Rachel was waiting for him! Aww.
Mika's Grace Kelly blaring out while zombies ate the Big Brother eviction-crowd at the start of Dead Set.
Closer's wonderful use of "The Blower's Daughter" by Damien Rice. I actually cried when I watched those last six minutes of Six Feet Under. It was so beautiful.
Sia was the best use ever. Weeping so I was. Also good: Project X - the most entertaining film ever made using the already popular yeah yeah yeahs and A-Trak - Off With Their Heads and the Kid Cudi/Steve Aoki remix of Pursuit of Happiness. Both were used in such a way that they made the songs even more popular and even elevated each of the artists statuses for their next album releases. Another good use of a song - a song I hate otherwise - was Snow Patrol - Cars for Big Brother 6 ending. And also I cheer when I hear Fiona Apple used in movies - it happens a lot more than you think. Also the OC was very good at using songs and making them extremely popular - Imogen Heap (3 times), Finlay Quaye etc
It's not at all moving but when Britney's 'I've Just Begin (Having My Fun)' came on during Bridesmaids, I emitted a small 'yuss'.
THIS. I remember at the time getting quite emotional at that, but then that was the series of Big Brother I watched the most I think. Also, Project X's use of Jay Z and Kanye's H*A*M struck me as a good one, as it fitted in really well with where it was in the film.
This was the most iconic use of music in Coronation Street:
Vanessa Carlton's 'Thousand Miles' in 'White Chicks.' Michelle Branch's 'Goodbye To You' over the heart-breaking end to Buffy's 'Tabula Rasa.'
The ending of Beautiful Intentions when The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony starts to play. There's a great Australian show called "Please Like Me" and they play 5,6,7,8 by Steps in nearly every episode. Which I loved
