King of Hearts was released in February 2012 as the lead single from Cassie's... no wait, nevermind that. It was maybe meant to be included in that mythical second album, but then again that could be said about nearly everything Cassie released in the last 13 years. It did however end up being featured in the Bad Boy 20th Anniversary box set released in 2016 at least. King of Hearts was written by... a fairly obscure bunch: John J. Conte Jr., Raelene Arreguin and Jay Singh and produced by J2 (?). The song's smooth electro sound was an interesting new direction for Cassie, but, sadly, it didn't anything chart-wise aside from a #39 peak in the US Rhytmic charts. I image it must not have been pushed in Europe at all, because it could have easily become at least a minor hit here. And as if the song wasn't PJ-friendly enough as it is, it even got a Richard X remix.

As you can see in the trajectory, King of Hearts managed a #3 placement at one point in the voting period, making it the only eliminated song so far to have been inside the top 10/5, and it has also received the most 10s so far (eighteen). Unfortunately the handful of low/average scores kept it from doing better, with the 3 from @slaybellz, one of the last voters, sealed its fate and made it end the rate in its lowest position over the whole voting period. Without that score, it would have landed at #16, so not exactly a huge difference.

Peasants:
@slaybellz (3) I never liked this one, sorry ya'll. I don't go to Cassie for basic club songs.

@Verandi (5) Much like Katy's Bon Appetit, you get a song of bleep blops that is borderline annoying, but you still endure it because you know the last minute is where the goodies at. I would call it overrated, but the world charts tell me it's really not dddd. (No offense but you really need a taste transplant)

@Holly Something (5) Not a fan of this.

Royalty:
@Rei Ayanami (8) One of her best up to that point.

@godspeed (8) "Ok, so I've got to give it to this forum for making me like this song 7 years after it was released. I remember listening to this in 2012 and hating this (a PopJustice sin, I know). I hated that yet another R&B artist that I loved decided to transition towards a cheap EDM sound that was all the rage back then. But listening to this for this rate, with a little bit of nostalgia, made me appreciate it a bit more. And then, I listened to it again, and again, and again... and yeah, this is actually really good and not "cheap" at all. One of the finest R&B-girl-turned-to-EDM-for-a-hit-single type of song of that time! I also really love the Kanye West remix." (You know what that is? Growth)

@Music Is Life (9) HANDCLAPS! FUN PRODUCTION! This was fun.

@livefrommelbs (10) I remember when this came out and my goddamn wig got sent to Pluto. I basically strutted around Sydney for months with this playing on my iPod. It was so great giving it some more spins after this rate! One of the runner-ups for my 11.

@berserkboi (10) Cassie is Queen of Unexpected Instrumental! This should be a Club Monster Hit! @WowWowWowWow found laminating Stan Card!

@KingBruno (10) She came back and how! Cassie innovates again on “King of Hearts”, outclassing basically every dance track released around that time with a song that only keeps on building. It could have conquered Ibiza.

@lalaclairi_ (10) After years of collecting her shelved songs, this masterpiece being officially released was a wonderful surprise.

@Sprockrooster (10) Honestly an 11-contender. There is only one way to make me appreciate Cassie's monotone way of singing and that is a massive beat. And this production is literally among the best ever. Intense dance-able parts, hand claps and a build-up to a climax that does not disappoint. PHEW.

@RUNAWAY (10) this song….another major hit waiting to happen. So iconic.

@Untouchable Ace (10) The best Cassie song.

@Remorque (10) It's the production that makes this a winner here. I once heard this in the early hours at a club and I fucking lost it. Not every song has that.

Good. "Long Way 2 Go" should have outlasted it.
