The little extra that could - she gives it to you every time,
SuperLove is our winning extra and manages to make the top 10 for a second Charli rate in a row, not everyone has that! An infectious little ditty in her back catalogue, it got my 11 in the previous rate, and to see how far it's sailed here once again, thrilling! This is a
perfect sound for our Charli and something she hasn't really done again since, but when you do it so right the first time, there's really no need to bother.
Receiving 3 11s,
SuperLove is still favoured amongst Charli fans because it's fresh, it's fun and it's just a full on bop. She sounds amazing on it, the production is irresistibly catchy and it deserved to be a cute little hit for her! It did however become her first ever solo song to chart on the UK top 100 (at #62) after its release way back in 2013. It was intended as the lead single to her 2nd album, but it seems Charli wanted the sound of
Sucker to be more punkier and not as good, so it was left as a dreaded orphaned single. It received a very cute video, directed by Ryan Andrews and set in Tokyo. Co-written with Patrik Berger, the lyrics are some of her most recognisable in her whole discography; frankly,
SuperLove has always deserved more and literally is one of her best songs, so it's #6 placing seems more than fair.
Charli said of the track;
" [it's about] running away and falling in love with someone and it being really dangerous and bad for you but still amazing, romantic and wonderful [...] 'SuperLove' is the best drug and this song is about overdosing on it and falling in real deep." It literally does sound like a drug in song form, and one song that hopefully Charli realises is still a complete gem. The song got featured in Dakota Johnson starring How To Be Single, along with
Worth It and
Love Myself. A great song always deserves its due, so take a bow SuperLove!!
