Whew, and just like that we're down to our final 4 with only 3 projects still left in tact;
how I'm feeling now leading single
forever bows out at a highly respectable 5th alternative. Not much good is to be remembered of 2020, but it did gift us a Charli lockdown album; she set herself a task to create a whole album in a certain number of weeks, with help from fans and friends to make it her most personal ever, and I don't think anyone could have really hoped for anything half as good as what we received - she did that.
forever had a huge job of being the first to represent what Charli was creating through quarantine, and it truly delivered; a ballad about wanting to be in someone's life forever, through the good and the bad, was completely relatable especially given what everyone around the world was going through in that time period. Premiered by Annie Mac in April 2020, it was produced by BJ Burton. Charli worked alongside her fans in order to select a single cover for the song, and famous friends such as Caroline Polachek also pitched in their ideas. This sense of collaboration between artist and fans was so good and a nice little, more fun distraction, from all the....everything else that was going on! It was listed by Pitchfork as one of their best singles of 2020 and
how I'm feeling now itself was lauded by critics, getting a Mercury nod being included in multiple end of year lists.
For music that came out of such a tricky situation, I think it's all so extremely important in how relevant it was, and it all manages to stand up on its own merits because Charli's creative control
blasts through, and while it's inevitable the whole record will be forever looked back as 'that lockdown album', it is much more than that and seeing the response it got in this rate, I think it'll forever go down as one of Charli's greatest achievements and something that helped bring a lot of us altogether through the hardest of times.
