Radio Disney Justice: A Teen-Pop Extravaganza - (Results: WINNER)

I bet y'all watched the 'voting blocs' for the first elimination thinking. "hmmm, these aren't going to show as much rank movement as I thought". Well this next song will throw those theories out the door in a hurry.

Nobody probably thought this era would lose a song so early and it's also my first 10.

#100. The Cheetah Girls - Girl Power - 5.338

Highest: 10 (DJHazey) <---ddddd

Lowest: 1 x 2 (@Sally_Harper, @Blond) 2 (@Martyn)

Voter Bloc 1: #31
Voter Bloc 2: #79
Voter Bloc 3: #70
Voter Bloc 4: #87
Voter Bloc 5: #96

Final Bloc: #100

Info: It was the second single from their debut self-titled album and features clips from their movie in the music video. On tour, they changed the song to "growl power" since this was their signature catch phrase. How adorable.

Hazey's Focus: Hey I knew nothing about their music when I first started formulating this rate, I was even asking people what songs to choose. When I didn't get a resounding response, I should've seen what would happen. So in the end, I picked the ones that sounded best to me which included this. I always thought they had a bigger Popjustice following on the grounds of nostalgia, but I guess not. This is a cute little bop with a wave-like melody that packs some punch if you ask me. When I was rating the songs, I got swept up in it and handed out a 10, maybe as a way of telling myself they deserved one. In recent plays I've found that maybe this was a bit of an overscore and I should've gone back again before finalizing my ballot. I think today, it's just a 7 or 8. Most if not all of my other 10s are pretty solid because I've known them for years, this feels like a charity effort on my part.

@Martyn (2) asks the question everyone wants to know: "Why didn't the Spice Girls do a song of this title? Anyway this isn't great." Inquiries like those are always going to win you points with @iheartpoptarts (5), here, let me prove it: "Not exactly doing the Spice Girls' catchphrase proud." But we aren't done poptarts, look who else @Remorque (3) brought to the commentary party: "What the fuck is this? The production's from an early *NSYNC demo that everybody forgot to master and the vocals... Oversing a bitsy, girls. And they sound about 45. I literally had to shut the video down after about 45 seconds." Dying at the fact that you call them 45 when I thought one of them sounded too young in the middle of the song. Though it looks like @Mina (4) might have been listening to it while doing the dishes or something: "Background music."

At least @livefrommelbs (5) let them off easy with a tip of the cap: "Never been a Cheetah Gal myself - I can appreciate their place in Disney Gal herstory, but this song's a no from me." It doesn't look like @Sally_Harper (1) was any kind of 'Gal' herself as far stanning for a girl-group anyways: "This reminds me of when I was in year 3 or 4 in primary school. There was a bit of a girlband craze, and everywhere you looked there were little groups of girls making up their own dance routines to B*witched songs and the like, and everybody would go to the front in turn to do their “solo”. This isn’t a compliment." Okay we get it you just love it when Vanessa or Nadine dominate the vocals and who's complaining?

It was inevitable but someone is already coming for my song choices, right @31entrance? (7.75) - "not my favorite Cheetah Girls song (that would be Strut) but it's not bad, the early 2000s r&b sound though I'm lowkey a sucker for those."

I swear @GhettoPrincess (8) has all the little info on any girl group that ever existed, she's like a walking encyclopedia but I just found this out on my own before reading your comment *wink*: "Give me that girl power anthem, I remember them switching up to GROWL power later on in live performances though." While @WhenTheSunGoesDown (7) takes us on a little trip down memory lane to my flop girl groups rate to remind us what Cheetah Girl Adrienne was also up to at the time: "I can’t see or hear any Cheetah Girls content without thinking of the iconic food fight that led to the end of 3LW. “Mashed potatoes, macaroni all in my hair, down my clothes, messing up my do!” Legendary." Hey I'm getting KFC tonight in fact!

Wait, so am I in Bloc 5 as well?

No major losses so far. I would have loved to give The Cheetah Girls a perfect 10 for this masterpiece:

A fictional Disney girl group is exactly the kind of thing I should love and yet I don't love the Cheetah Girls really at all, which I think says a lot. Do better next time!

(At least, I hope there's a next time!)

Hey I'm getting KFC tonight in fact!

Fight! Fight! Fight! Etc.

We Doin' It (completely amateur), Best Friend's Brother (a cringe-worthy racket) or Party on a Weekday/Generous (beyond faceless and generic) next! Those my only four <4 scores.

Poor the modern Disney era.

Finally your infamous 'clairvoyant' abilities came through..

#99. China Anne McClain - What's My Name - 5.475

Highest: 10 (@Sprockrooster)

Lowest: 1 x 2 (@unnameable, @Blond) 2 x 2 (@Hurricane Drunk, @Sprocky's BF)

My Score: 9

Voter Bloc 1: #74
Voter Bloc 2: #85
Voter Bloc 3: #96
Voter Bloc 4: #100
Voter Bloc 5: #99

Final Bloc: #99

Charts: #61 (U.S.) #94 (Canada)

Certifications: Gold (U.S.)

Info: It's performed mainly by China Anne McClain with the help of the guys y'all didn't have time for: Thomas Doherty and Dylan Playfair. The song was released as a single for the film Descendants 2. China performed a mashup with the cast, which included the song, on Good Morning America. It's the theme song for China's role as Uma (Ursula's daughter) in the film, which is what you see in the music video.

Hazey's Focus: I actually prefer Sofia Carson's main bop "Chillin Like a Villain" from the same soundtrack, but since this was actually a single I didn't have much choice. Okay, so there's a lot of extra theatrics that some people weren't prepared/here for, but come on now it's a mega bop. Yes the rap section could've been left out, but the "all eyes on me" section alone is worth tons of points if you ask me.

@unnameable (1) lives up to their name by not being able to place the correct name on poor Uma: "I believe it’s “mud”. If you watch the video closely, you can @Sally_Harper (3) in the background foot tapping with a look on her face like she'd like to anywhere else but there: "I love the background music, but the main song isn’t doing a lot for me." She looks to @livefrommelbs (5) for assurance on the matter but only gets a confused shrug: "This is a bit of a racket isn't it? I can't decide if I love it or loathe it so it gets a solid 5." But they're not alone with @iheartpoptarts (5) having no idea why she's there or how she got there: "I have no idea about the movie and the song is kind of what-even-is-this out of context. Did she get in a fight with a bunch of cavemen?" Omg, their pirates! How do you not see that!? Life really is hard, etc.

It was a go for @GhettoPrincess (8) until she realized she'd need to do a little audio editing before it ever hit her library: "A discovery although the guy ruins it." While @Pecans (9) doubles down on the brilliance of our leading lady: "LOVE China’s vocals. She really makes this song something special." I'm loving how China's style is effecting @Sprockrooster (10), but he better not be hinting that Cher's actual contribution to this rate is leaving anytime soon: "Ooh. Swagger Jagger!"
