Hazey's Focus: I was so happy to see this was officially considered a promotional single so I could throw it in (though I might've done so regardless). It was on the Camp Rock 2 soundtrack, so the music video is directly from that film. Everyone should know how much a pre-"Sorry Not Sorry" Demi stan I am and how many favorites I must have in her discography. You all might be shocked to find out that this literally in my Demi Top 5 and I consider one of my favorite songs of all-time as it's easily one of my most played Demi songs ever. Don't ask me anything about the movie because I haven't seen it but my life was altered when I first heard the song. Everything about it is designed to sound like an anthem and the energy and vibe make it such a great way to get really 'pumped up'. (Yes, it has gotten me pumped up on numerous occasions). I often think of the second verse and how it's lyrics have such a beautiful message: "Don't get me wrong...I don't like confrontation. I'd rather we all just get along...music should de undivided..united." What a lovely thought and I've even inserted into some of the arguments on this very forum, though I haven't in a while. I agree with most people that say Demi's voice was so much more appealing in the beginning, which is fully on display here. I love the way she sings the word "serious" for some reason especially. Also the line "We've been called out. Do you hear your name? I'm not confused." is what really adds to the defiance and fighting attitude of the song. Once it took me over it all became so fun for me to scream my lungs out to.
@Martyn (2.5) obviously means he would've listened to nothing but "can't Back Down" an needs to adjust their score immediately: "If this was the first Demi song I'd heard, I wouldn't have looked out for anymore." While @Mina (4) plays the game of commentary imitating commentary by calling the song "generic", her unapologetic colleague @Sally_Harper (4) gives us something to fear later, assuming we all have some Demi favs: "This is a bit by-the-numbers. Not really enjoying it (but I raised the score after I’d finished her other songs, because it’s nowhere near as bad as some of the ones that follow it)."
In contrast, @livefrommelbs (6) chooses to take the optimistic approach and fight the hatred: "It was the beginning of brilliant things." But @iheartpoptarts (6) brings the shade back and if she plans to blame it all on Google, it'll be a no go: "I love how when you start to Google this the first thing that comes up is “Demi Lovato can’t hit high notes”. Ha, she did high notes and a lot of them which is what destroyed her voice, actually.
@unnameable (6) is either leaving out details or is nicer than I am because I would've sued Disney for trauma if this had happened to me: "I entered a bunch of Disney competitions on their website, and I won a CD single signed by the Jonas Brothers and a camp rock 2 inflatable microphone. Sadly no Demi-related goodies."
