@iheartpoptarts the low scorer on one of my favs? I swear we've been here before, anybody remember when?

#85. Dove Cameron - What A Girl Is - 6.225

Highest: 10 (DJHazey)

Lowest: 3 x 2 (@iheartpoptarts, @Blond)

Voter Bloc 1: #54
Voter Bloc 2: #53
Voter Bloc 3: #66
Voter Bloc 4: #84
Voter Bloc 5: #84

Final Voters: #85

Hazey's Focus: There isn't a lot for me to say about this song that I didn't already say when I introduced Dove to everyone. Dove just has a bunch random TV show/movie appearances songs to her name and a lot of them were going to do much worse than this did. I'm actually kind of proud of how long this held on. It's a shame she hadn't put out a real single before this rate, but the power of "I'll stand up now!...and won't back down!" should've been enough to grab a new fan or two.

With @Mina (5) calling it "trite" I expected a much lower score. I think I'd have to re-watch the video to understand what @Martyn (5.75) was referring to: "What exactly are they threatening to show me?"
@iheartpoptarts (3) chooses to go after the accompanying vocalists in the video: "It was going to get a decent score until that kid started rapping. Meanwhile, that lollipop has to be the best makeshift microphone I’ve ever seen." Yeah, it's definitely better than the comb I use. We'd a need a time machine if we wanted @Sally_Harper (5) to stan: "If I was about 11 I’d love this, which sounds more insulting than I mean it to." Age should never apply to whatever music moves you, but werk. This is probably the same place @31entrance (7.75) was coming from though when they said: "I actually like the message of this song and while the song itself isn’t bad, I wouldn’t listen to it constantly." This is me in any rate with a bunch 'woke' or artistic but boring songs when I give out the low scores. Let me copy this and paste in those rates.

Now @Mina finally loses a 0.

#85. Victoria Justice - Gold - 6.225

Highest: 10 (@unnameable)

Lowest: 0 (@Mina) 2 (@Sally_Harper)

My Score: 8

Voter Bloc 1: #88
Voter Bloc 2: #100
Voter Bloc 3: #95
Voter Bloc 4: #94
Voter Bloc 5: #94

Final Voters: #85

Info: This technically Victoria's solo debut single, but I'd consider the 'Victorious Cast' singles hers and always have. This was supposed to be part of the debut album Victoria teased in 2012, but it never came to fruition. Tove Lo is a notable writer of the song.

Hazey's Focus: Loved this when I first heard it, but that love has waned over the years. I still enjoy it for a spare play here and there, but it's certainly no Britt Nicole, who's song I always think of instead. Right @Sprockrooster (6)? "Very Britt Nicole sonically, but nothing on the 'Gold' from her." Though Victoria has some bops that I've stanned for harder than almost anything from Britt, Britt has a much stronger singing voice.

@Mina (0) is like one of those Real Housewives calling out another Real Housewife in some club on a Friday night with a bunch of bouncers holding her back: "This looks and sounds like one of those songs a Real Housewife would make to promote her desperate and misguided singing career." @Sally_Harper (2) wanted to stay out of the catfight but at some point she just couldn't keep it together: "It was going reasonably well until she started going “IIIIII’m GUH-OLD, GUH-OLD”, and then the second verse was somehow even more terrible than that."

@Martyn (6.75) reveals the minimum score you need to get in order to get plays on his radio station: "I'd stick this on a playlist." Meanwhile, @soratami (7) almost had me redacting this comment but needs to have their mouth washed out: "This… sounds like a Jessie J song." I guess you'd know then. xx

@WhenTheSunGoesDown (8) and @iheartpoptarts (8) look back with sad eyes at what could've been: "I don’t understand why this bop flopped so hard, it’s a cute low-key bop. Maybe it was the heinous bridge? RIP her career." // "Whatever happened to her pop career? I think she deserved another shot at it. I mean, everybody peaks with the second single anyway." Yas, she was perfect when I came to basic bops, especially her first two on Victorious. Even her other TV/film ventures have been mostly flops. R.I.P. indeed.

@unnameable (10) will have everyone wondering if their an Iggy stan after this: "I love this song, and find the white-girl-rapping endearing rather than annoying."

#84. College 11 - Go! - 6.233

Highest: 10 x 2 (@unnameable, DJHazey)

Voter Bloc 1: #61
Voter Bloc 2: #59
Voter Bloc 3: #68
Voter Bloc 4: #76
Voter Bloc 5: #73

Final Voters: #84

Hazey's Focus: I covered most that I know about them during my intro post, but I'll reiterate how I started out with others songs being my main favs like "Back to Wonderland' which unfortunately ended up being one of my worst finishes in PJSC ever. I was happy to find out this was actually a single for them and eligible because while I still love that flop of an album track I figured this would have the band's best shot with new listeners. The bop is simply about getting ready for a night out and the strings of "go" and "know" in the chorus works for me even though I usually don't go for the repetition of one word in a chorus like that.

@livefrommelbs (3) isn't sure they hear anything close to finished product: "This is easily the most half-baked of all the Radio Disney pop/rock/dance bops that were coming out during this time." I don't know if I'm more disappointed in this opinion or more impressed that it sounds like you had already heard them on the radio before. @Martyn (3.75) just thinks it sounds dated: "If I didn't know better, I would say this is the oldest song here." Ouch. At most it sounds like 2010, which isn't bad for a 2012 song. At least @31entrance (7) would've been bopping at the time: "sounds like something I would had on repeat in like 2011."

@Mina (5) is right next to the word ambivalence in the dictionary with this one: "I forgot this was playing." @Sally_Harper (8) however lets the light in: "I have no idea what this is or where it comes from but it’s a bop nonetheless. I LOVE the slower bits in particular." If you're referring to the verses, I totally agree. The way Mayra emphasizes key words there is just perfect.

@iheartpoptarts (8) was saying Come to Canada! to the Brazilians: "Disney Latino bringing the bops. Are there Disney bops all around the world? I lowkey feel like we’d know about them already if so." I don't think there are any, at least that I know of. This did however make me think of the fact that I wanted to add a girl duo called 'Bo & Monica' because I swear they were associated with Nickelodeon in the Netherlands but I couldn't find any proof of it or we could've been rating "This Is How We Party" or "Gonna Be a Star" or both. The only youtube videos of the songs are samples though. I don't know what happened to the full ones.

I'm sure everyone can tell they would be handing out 10s form those 16 second snippets. Certified bops.

You're welcome.

@unnameable (10) has excitement, passion and has questions: "I have never heard of this band, and don’t even know if they’re even on a Disney show. They deserved a shot at making it, based on this song." They are on Disney shows, but they are based in Latin America. They also have one self-titled album full of similar bops. Be sure to check it out!

Victoria's 'Gold' deserves some love just for casting Colton Haynes in the video.

Bo & Monica were two characters from the tv show 'Topstars', which is the Dutch remake of the Belgian series 'Spring' about a dance school. It aired on the Dutch public broadcast and it's a show by Studio 100, the biggest production company on kids entertainment in Belgium and The Netherlands. It's basically a mini Disney with tv series, movies, recording artists, musicals, theme parks, etc. Sorry to disappoint you that there's no Nickelodeon link for Bo & Monica! (Although Studio 100 did do a US remake of their show 'Het Huis Anubis' which aired for 3 series on Nickelodeon as 'House Of Anubis!)

Okay cool, I just remember watching the music video for "This Is How We Party" a long time ago when it was still on youtube and seeing the Nickelodeon emblem in there, probably just because it was ripped from a Nickelodeon channel or something. Thanks for the info!

Yes, Eye Candy I was super excited about that show and then it disappeared as fast it came.

(Besides Victoria is eye candy in the truest sense of the word, what an amazing name for a TV show starring her.)

#83. Bella Thorne & Zendaya - Something to Dance For/TTYLXOX Mashup - 6.238

Highest: 10 x 3 (@iheartpoptarts, @Sprockrooster, @soratami)

Lowest: 1 (@Blond) 3 (@Hurricane Drunk)

My Score: 6

Voting Bloc 1: #92
Voting Bloc 2: #92
Voting Bloc 3: #91
Voting Bloc 4: #88
Voting Bloc 5: #81

Final Voters: #83

Charts: TTYLXOX - #97 (U.S.) #71 (Canada) #170 (UK) // Something to Dance For - #24 (U.S. Bubbling Under)

Hazey's Focus: Basically the story behind me adding this mashup is that "TTYLXOX" is somehow Bella's most "successful" single so I had to have it, but I wanted to keep Zendaya at equal footing as far as the number of songs and figured this would be a great way to do it. "Something to Dance For" was also a promotional single for Zendaya and I honestly didn't know it before this rate. If we had been rating "TTYLXOX" by itself I would've given one of my lowest scores (probably around a 3, maybe a 2) because I actually find the song to be quite annoying, but I had to bump it up because I was pleasantly surprised by what Zendaya brings to the table.

Both parts weren't working for @Martyn (3.25) though: "What the hell is this mess?" while @Sally_Harper (4) agreed with my assessment: "Zendaya’s bit is all right, but Christ, poor Bella." However, @WhenTheSunGoesDown (5) is of course stanning for Bella and doesn't think the mashup did her justice: "TTYLXOX is iconic for being a disaster but this mashup is… odd." On the other hand, @31entrance embraces the whole thing by finding a way to love the 'text generation' anthem: "always preferred STDF over TTYLXOX however TTYLXOX is kind of a guilty pleasure."

@unnameable (9) calls it "cheesy but fun" like many songs in this rate are, while @Sprockrooster (10) goes in search of his wig: "THIS POPS OFF." Another voter who wanted me to have extra work is @soratami (10) by asking for 102 songs: "Would have liked to have these two as separate songs, but it's quite cool how they work really well as a mashup." In conclusion, @iheartpoptarts (10) gives us a little preview of 90s Eurodance rate artists with their comparison that led to full marks: "I’m giving this a 10 because ‘Something to Dance For’ deserves it so much, even though the other one doesn’t. I’ve said it already, but it’s basically ‘One More Time’ by Real McCoy."

#82. Vanessa Hudgens - Just Dance - 6.275

Highest: 11 (@Sally_Harper)

Lowest: 4 x 2 (@unnameable, @Blond)

My Score: 8

Voter Bloc 1: #54
Voter Bloc 2: #41
Voter Bloc 3: #58
Voter Bloc 4: #59
Voter Bloc 5: #71

Final Voters: #82

Hazey's Focus: This was a promotional single for Vanessa's first album. I bought V years ago as a way to discover her music for the first time and honestly came away disappointed. There's only a couple of songs from it in my library and I never bothered with Identified because of it. This is probably my favorite song by her though, so my 8 tells you what I think of the rest. I remember this being one of the few bops on the album, with the stuttered breakup of the words in the chorus and oddly the whispered "I've got to keep it together" being the moments I'd call the highlights.

We haven't had a one-word comment from @Mina (5) in a while and I didn't want to disappoint, here's a classic: "Filler."

The only thing this comment from @iheartpoptarts (5) makes me do is think of ways I could've shoe-horned "Truth or Dare" by Emily Osment into this rate: "You know what's a good song? 'Let's Dance' by 5ive. Embed that. I dare you." *arms crossed" Fine.

@Martyn (5) should be happy to know that Ashslay is indeed slaying poor Vanessa in this rate: "There must be a thing about "stars" with V names being outshined by "not the stats" with A names."

All I can do with this one from @WhenTheSunGoesDown (7.75) is go "Huh?" and wait for an explanation because I'm slow: "She’s so into voguing right now!"

@livefrommelbs (8.5) and I are on the same page except I've never forgotten this little gem: "OMG I had completely forgotten this super-bop. Definitely Baby V's best in my books."

@Sally_Harper (11) chose this as her favorite, so we let her have the floor:

"Anthem of our generation. Well, of my bedroom. That “YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAH,HEY YEAH,YEAH,YEAAAH” opening adlib is like a call to arms even for my poor, uncoordinated, crap dancer self. I love everything about this song, in fact this was somehow the first Vanessa song I heard and I instantly went WHAT IS THIS I NEED IT AND EVERYTHING BY HER. The industrial style instrumental, the vocal layering, the point in the second chorus when the whole extra layer of “feels so right, hold me tight etc” comes in over the top of all the other layers, the fact that the mega adlib is used again in the middle…the whole thing just floors me. Also, for a song by a Disney star that’s supposedly about dancing it’s impressively sultry. (p.s. I have just this second, after over a decade of loving this song, realised that the sultriness may be deliberate and in fact the whole “let’s dance” thing could actually be a euphemism. YIKES.)"
