Info: Originally "You Are the Only One" was planned to be the debut single for Emily's debut EP All The Right Wrongs, but Emily pushed for "All the Way Up" and eventually got her way. She is inspired by Alanis Morissette and specifically wanted this record to be like Jagged Little Pill...at least she has lofty goals right? Emily co-wrote a song about "breaking out" and "being who want to be" which she felt was very important for her teenaged fans. It took about three months to complete the EP while she was on set for Hannah Montana. The music video includes the band Push Play, who she had just appeared in another a music video for, so they were returning the favor.
Hazey's Focus: Not much to say about this. I always forget how much I love the rock stuff from her debut, when compared to the electro-pop from Fight or Flight that I always associate with her. However, you can bet I was bopping away when listening to this for the rate after having not listened to it in years. Just classic 00s pop-rock at its finest.
It sounds like @Sally_Harper (3) would've been the one calling the cops for being too loud if she were in the music video's apartment: "Her voice is a bit grating here and the song isn’t doing much for me."
Usually a sucker for this style of pop, @Mina (4) explains why it fell short: "I was with this one up until that awful autotune portion."
On the other hand, @iheartpoptarts (6) usually isn't the biggest fan of this kind of pop: "The return of the generic pop/rock look-at-me-I’m-a-rebel song. Poor the Grandma."
@Martyn (7) demands a comeback and I'm not going to stop him: "She should be huge." I needed Fight or Flight #2. Like literally needed it.
@WhenTheSunGoesDown (7) gives a low grade for creativity: "It’s kind of hilarious how all these girls got an identical debut single and matching video. She truly does not have the voice for this kind of song."
This was "fun pop rock" for @unnameable who suddenly can't give a low score and I'm not complaining.
@31entrance (9.25) was having a nice re-discovery: "forgot how great this song is! also is that Aaron Taylor-Johnson I see in the music video?"
