Release: Only single from Miranda's debut album
Sparks Fly in March 2010.
Songwriters: Miranda Cosgrove, Dr. Luke (producer), Claude Kelly, also produced by Ammo.
Lyrics: In an interview with Ryan Seacrest, Miranda had the following to say:
"The song's about your first love or thinking you're falling in love, so it's just kind of a really happy, sweet song. I did write it about a guy, and I'm afraid he might have heard it and he's going to figure it out!" Miranda went on to say that the first two words you ear in the song were what inspired the album's title.
Reviews: "Kissin U" received mainly positive reviews for being a great bubblegum-pop song. Some compared it favorably to a early-Taylor swift cut, while some said it was only slightly behind Selena's "Naturally" for the best teen-pop songs of the time. Other critics thought it 'played it safe' and was far too saccharine.
Hazey's Focus: Never in a million years did I think "Kissin U" would be voted Miranda's best song here, because I thought "Dancing Crazy" had a much bigger following around here and I wasn't even sure anybody knew this one, or remembered it. It's was always going to be that or "About You Now" because of the Sugababes connection. So get this, I consider this my #2 song from Miranda and that's only because "BAM" grew into the Ultimate Popjustice Top 20 song it is now. Prior to whenever that happened, I was absolutely obsessed with this song. I'd say that obsession has worn off, but I'll get every bit of my life whenever it's playing, don't even doubt that. There's this perfect laid back melody running throughout the song where lines just seem to glide right into one another and it makes it so fun to sing along to. That one line
"almost like the puzzle piece I've been trying to find" is on another level with your it was vocally produced. I hate Dr. Luke for obvious reasons, but damn could he put together a masterpiece. The other highlight is the middle eight and how it reconnects back into the main song, which has always been one of my favorite elements in a pop song.
Wait
@iheartpoptarts (7) this score is something you were steadfast about protecting? I'm betting you're happy Lindsay and Sabrina have held on for the moment then:
"Generic but pretty. Meanwhile, Big Time Rush just came up on the YouTube sidebar and I’m so tempted to have a boyband moment, but I won’t. Are you proud, Hazey?"
Seeing this image from
@WhenTheSunGoesDown (7.5) never gets old:
"I still stan by this tweet". It's scripture.
The description
@Mina (8) gives makes me wonder where her 0 was, so for thank we thank you:
"This sounds like it could've been a Hilary Duff ft. autotune song circa 2005."
The effortlessness on display was recognized by
@Sally_Harper (8):
"This is rather lovely and she sounds gorgeous on it. The nonchalant way she sings “I might die” at the start made me cackle. Amazing."
I'm hoping
@31entrance (8.25) has at least heard High Maintenance in full:
"I actually wouldn’t mind another record from Miranda her first album had cute little bops like this one."
While
@unnameable (9) appreciates the song for exactly the feelings it was meant to evoke:
"neatly captures the early moments of romance".
Oh and if no one listens to my all-time favorite "BAM" and compliments its amazingness, rate cancelled~
