Release: Lead single for Demi's fourth album
Demi, in February 2013.
Songwriters: Mitch Allan (also producer), Jason Evigan (also producer), Sean Douglas, Nikki Williams, Aaron Philips, Demi Lovato
Fun Facts: Demi had just broken her leg from slipping on the floor after her roommate had just cleaned it with Pledge, but made it to photoshoot for the single cover. "Heart Attack" was originally written by Nikki Williams for her debut album and the title "Heart Attack" came about because Jason Evigan said whenever Nikki has a crush on someone she has a heart attack. A lot of people actually wanted this song but Demi freaked out when she first hard it after recording the song "Two Pieces", then made a few lyric changed that everyone loved.
Hazey's Focus: As much as Demi stan I consider myself to be, the dark secret is I've gone through phases on multiple occasions where I wasn't paying attention to her music at all. One of those times is currently, after the day I heard "Sorry Not Sorry" and the subsequent album. The other time was back during the Unbroken era because literally nothing excited me much beyond "Give Your Heart a Break" and it took being pointed to "Heart Attack" on his release for me to comeback. Sometimes I think this is going to sound like something less than a 10, but the listening is experience is through the roof. Never really thought the huge chorus was amazing but I'll bop, instead it's really all about the verses especially at each "make me feel like a girl"... damn the melody of that section is unthinkably good.
We've seen a few examples of
@Sprockrooster's (5) boyfriend underscoring favorites but the roles are reversed this time:
"I CANNOT AT MY BOYFRIENDS' SCORE. I am still traumatized this of all Demi songs went to the first winner's rate."
You'd think
@Sally_Harper (7) had been all shouted out by now, but maybe Stockholm Syndrome worked out us:
"This is pretty good, and actually the shoutier vocals work here." Hey, they work here a heck a lot better than Skyscraper.
Like I definitely agree with
@Blond (7.5) is saying but she still slaays it:
"Awful lyrics but kind of a bop? These seems to be the beginning of Demi’s wailing banshee era which she hasn’t come out of yet."
Want to here what logic sounds like? Here's
@WhenTheSunGoesDown (8.5):
"Such a dumb song. I love it."
It was never going to perfect for
@livefrommelbs (9.75) because of sports:
"Probably my fave Demi song after Cool For The Summer. Deducting 0.25 points for the 'bounce like a basketball' line, but the way she hits that note before the final chorus is chill-inducing."
Hey stop saying
@Mina (10) doesn't like a happy bop because she shocked the world by calling this
"Fun!" - We're writing this date down in herstory.
You're right
@unnameable (10) but it goes right up with September's "Resuscitate Me" which will kept us alive after being slain:
"Demi is your queen when you’re having a cardiac event."
Yes that's other flawless moment
@iheartpoptarts (10):
"Just a ridiculously huge song. The “putting my defenses up, ‘cause I don’t wanna fall in love” bit is so melodically perfect."
@GhettoPrincess (10) is happy that the underdog story finally came through for poor Demi:
"catchy and impressive vocals all over the track. The production is great and shows what Demi is capable of as a pop artist. Unfortunately it’s clear that generally she doesn’t get the material that could make her a bigger force in pop like this often. I love how it builds up to utter chaos at the end."
