Peter Horton (1941-2023)

The Czechia-born Austrian singer, who sang the host country's entry at Eurovision 1967 in Vienna, has passed away at age 82.

High-key one of the best Eurovision songs of the decade so far.

I guess it was before I got into Eurovision properly, but I had no idea there was at one point a rule that the top 10 non-Big 4 countries each year automatically got a spot in the next year's final. Definitely glad they've done away with that.

Yeah that was a messy rule. I understand that they wanted to award good placements but it lead to bad songs in the final and good songs not qualifying.

Also when they had one semi, where they had 28 songs, bloodbath.

Lars Berghagen (1945-2023)

Lars Berghagen sang the host entry at Eurovision 1975 in Stockholm, finishing in eighth place. Not only he followed up ABBA in representing Sweden at Eurovision, he had placed second at MelodiFestivalen 1974 behind ABBA. Berghagen passed away yesterday age 78.

SARA TAVARES (1978-2023)

Sara Tavares represented Portugal in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, ending in 8th place and took part on the Eurovision 2018 interval act. She died today at age 45 of a brain tumor.





I'm so devastated by these news. Sara was such a gifted, incredible artist. She always did her own thing and her own sound and avoided the boxes people wanted her to fit in. She could have been the Portuguese Whitney Houston but instead carved her own musical path, experimenting with different genres from gospel to afrobeat.

And then there's her Eurovision 1994 song, that it's one of my all-time favourite songs period, nevermind Eurovision. I cannot simply explain how much that song means to me.
