Hello!
@Ezz and I are glad to start a remixes rate! This was an idea I had a few years ago because I like listening to remixes, and there are songs whose remixes are better than the original versions so why not send some love to them? I ended up giving up on the plan because I had no idea how to pick the songs.
However, I participated in a few rates that divided the process into two stages: submission and scoring. I thought it would be a great method to apply here, as it would solve my biggest problem. Afterward, I called Ezz to co-host with me as we both appreciate some good old trance remixes, and now here we are!
So here is how it is going to work:
- 1st stage: PM me and @Ezz with your top 10 favorite remixes. Remember to state which one is your favorite or not. An ideal format would be:
1st: Remix 1
2nd: Remix 2
3rd: Remix 3
4th: Remix 4
5th: Remix 5
6th: Remix 6
7th: Remix 7
8th: Remix 8
9th: Remix 9
10th: Remix 10
…but as long as we can identify which one is 1st and which one is 2nd, 3rd… is fine.
This stage will last until May 14th, 23h59 in the last inhabited timezone.
2nd stage: we will reveal the songs in the running (the total number will depend on how many people take part, but I will assure you it won’t be more than 100). Then, you will score all of them from 0 to 10, and you can give your 11 to your favorite remix ever. Please keep the decimals to two places (x.xx). Send the final ballot to both of us (you can use the same conversation from part 1).
This stage will last until July 2nd, 23h59 in the last inhabited timezone, with the possibility of an extension if necessary.
That being said, let us answer a few questions beforehand:
Are all remixes allowed?
So, in case of popularity, you are free to send anything from Beyoncé’s most famous remixes to some obscure remixes of a Nepalese song, as long as it has been officially released.
The other aspect to take into account is that those kinds of remixes where they practically just add a new artist are NOT eligible. The song must have any kind of change in its melody, hook, etc. Popular examples of this are: Till The World Ends (feat. Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha); E.T. (feat. Kanye West); Despacito (feat. Justin Bieber), and the list goes on.
Other than these two aspects, your remix is eligible. If you still have any questions on whether the song you want is eligible or not, don’t hesitate to ask us! We will also notify you of any problems with your ballot.
How will the remixes be selected?
After the submission stage ends, we will randomize every ballot. Once randomized, we will add the 1st place of the first ballot to the list, then the 1st place of the second ballot, and the list goes on until the final ballot In case one of these songs is repeated, we select the 2nd place (and if this one is also repeated, the 3rd place, or whatever place the next not-yet-picked song is located). Everyone will have their 1st place automatically added to the final song list, so pick it wisely!
After this part is done, the remaining songs will be selected by points. We will convert each place to points, precisely like this:
2nd: 9 points
3rd: 8 points
4th: 7 points
5th: 6 points
6th: 5 points
7th: 4 points
8th: 3 points
9th: 2 points
10th: 1 point
Let’s say song A was submitted in three ballots in 2nd, 5th, and 9th places. That would convert to 17 points, therefore it will have priority over, say, song B (which got 12 points), but it would be behind song C, with 23 points. In the case of ties, the one with the most voters gets priority - if they have the same number of voters, the one with the highest scorer gets priority, but if they have the exact number of voters and point distribution, both will get in the rate.
Can I 11 one of my submissions?
Of course!
Is commentary mandatory?
We would appreciate if you send it at least to your 11 and to scores below 3.
I did not participate in the first part. Can I still vote?
Of course! We would be grateful if you did!
Feel free to ask if there are any other questions!
2nd: Remix 2
3rd: Remix 3
4th: Remix 4
5th: Remix 5
6th: Remix 6
7th: Remix 7
8th: Remix 8
9th: Remix 9
10th: Remix 10
