Ricki-Lee

I was hoping she would be doing Eurovision but with the release of “I was made for loving you” today I don’t think she will, as they announce the Australian Eurovision participant on 6 March and her album is out 8 March. It would be strange to release another single next week?

Update: She got asked on Instagram if she was doing Eurovision and responded no.
I was the one who asked, hehe.

I’m always intrigued why Ricki-Lee never records any collaborations, especially with some of the other pop girlies.

Imagine a record with her Jessica Mauboy and Samantha Jade releasing a huge pop banger. The gays would be all over that!

A very decent effort.
Predominantly up-tempo if not a little samey.
The released tracks are the stand outs but a few extra tracks (maybe a proper ballad and another mid-tempo in the mix) wouldn't have hurt for length and variety.
Of course she sound utterly fantastic and her voice is in fine form.
It is a pity Ricki doesn't do collabs because she could be Australia's version of Ella Henderson where features with different producers/acts pave the way for more interest in her solo music.

Great to see her finally get another album out though.
Congrats Ricki Lee!

First listen through and it's a very decent effort, a solid 8.5/10. I'm sure I will gravitate towards certain songs on subsequent listens.

Am I the only one who's just glad she is putting music out there. As an independent artist, it must be incredibly hard with almost zero/little returns, especially with her thriving radio and TV career. I truly applaud her for keeping her music career alive after all these years and wish her all the success.

After having this album on repeat several times today, it definitely is a solid pop album - even more so considering the circumstances involved being an independent artist. It’s a great example of what pop music should be: fun, bright, laden with catchy hooks but also those moments of introspective to give raw emotions.

‘Magic’ generally sounds like a lost Kylie Minogue song (in a great way) and would easily fit on either her current album, ‘Tension’, or ‘Disco’.

‘Dance Like Nobody Watching’ and ‘Real Love’ have that club / tropical-pop feel, with pulsing beats and beautiful soaring vocals.

‘More Than Love’ and ‘Talkin’ have a very funky pop feel but with a sassy bite. I love the instrumental on ‘Real Love’ too: it has some wonderful flourishes and touches here and there. You can tell she is somebody who will not be walked over and is willing to stand her ground. Not sure if it’s just me, but ‘Talkin’ melodically sounds similar to Doja Cat’s ‘Say So’.

‘What Do You Want From Me?’ As a closer is brilliant. Raw, full of emotion and leaves you wanting more.

As somebody said earlier, it’s a shame she didn’t add a few extra tracks, even adding ‘Last Night’ as a bonus would have been nice.

9 out of 10!

Too bad her store does not ship to Europe
That’s strange.

Mine has shipped to the UK, so you would only assume that it would be the same or similar at least.

Shame she didn’t share the code for when pre ordering, but I suppose it helps generate sales at least.
