Rihanna - 9th Album

I love Rihanna. ANTI is still a masterpiece of an album. And I’m still pleased I saw her on the tour.

But wow, that performance, was just… whelmingly meh??? She was never known for being a high octane dancer, which is fine. But the absolute lack of effort is incredible. At least it’s all whilst scamming a fellow billionaire.

And again, her reaction toward any mention of an album etc… I’m over it now. And I’m at peace with that. I’d rather she never return to music, than do so with a heightened sense of resentment.

It’s peak irony that the resentment seems to be toward herself because she can’t seem to come up with anything good enough to release.

Like maybe spend a tiny minuscule portion of that billion on better writers & producers or something.

It's so confusing to me because we've heard from multiple sources over the last eight years that she has been working on new music, yet she is obviously completely apathetic towards that side of her career so... what is the truth?

Oh my god

That artwork placement… Fenty heir the third???

Legit though, the performance would have been fine enough had I paid £78 for a nosebleed seat. Imagine being the billionaire! Why was she barefoot? What was that outfit? There’s like a modicum of looking amazing on stage and performing the hell out of her songs and then she goes back to factory settings immediately after? Wild indeed…

An album was supposedly ready in 2019. (Confirmed by multiple sources)

And then in 2021 she confirmed to Vogue two albums were on the way.

Of course now scrapped, but I’m so intrigued as to what happened behind the scenes.

It’s probably a combination of factors. She refers to Anti as her best work (rightfully so), so I’m sure there’s a level of fear/uncertainty that the next record won’t live up to not only the success of that album, but her own expectations.

Couple that with her success in business ventures, growing a family, a pandemic…I’m sure a lot of plans that may have previously been in place for music were shifted for various reasons along the way.

And yes, the possibility that she’s found throughout the last few years that she isn’t all that interested in being an artist at this stage in her career/life. Which is totally valid! The frustration comes from the trail of crumbs scattered amongst interviews over the years that built up false hope that this would’ve been out years ago.

Yes, her losing interest in being a pop star is obviously totally fine (how Freudian that I first wrote “anxiously totally fine”) but it’s also her that multiple times has teased something is coming. I guess she really meant it when she said bitch better have her money since she’s willing to play (albeit privately and sloppily) if she’s paid.

Sadly I do feel that the hype is non existent. And sort of feel the time has passed for her.

I have been to all her tours, and I noticed a significant difference at the Diamonds World Tour. Her breath control, her energy and stage presence for sure declined.

Then forward three years to the Anti Tour. I thought her voice quality improved. But at the show I attended, she did not sing one full song without stopping multiple times, or pointing the mic to the crowd.

Im surprised it’s not been discussed, but I genuinely feel there’s some vocal chord damage present.

Last night sort of confirmed that for me, her voice was very low, raspy and breathy. And overall poor, she cannot sing over a certain note now. It was incredibly disappointing for the fanbase last night, 8 years away and she’s declined even more.
I genuinely would be surprised if she ever releases another record.

I doubt there's actual damage, but vocal cords are like any other muscles; you have to use them to keep them in shape. Neglecting them and not giving them the use/exercise to keep them strong will cause whatever strength you've built up to start going away.

The most annoying thing with fame and stardom is that artists get so full of themselves and forget who made them a star. It's us, fans and consumers of music. They are more concerned with making more money, more, more more...gimme more. It's like honey, you are a billionaire, you are not gonna starve today, tomorrow or in about 50 years. How about getting back down to earth and do some music instead of all that other shit. If i had a voice like some of our favorite popstars i would fucking make new music and release shit all the time. In 50 years, your leagcy is not gonna be new shade of a lipstick or new line of underwear, it's gonna be the music you left for new generations to discover. I mean, look at Madonna, the mother never stops working and she could retire if she wanted to.

I'm not even a Madonna fan but good lord she knows how to work. Talk about a grafter, even the eras that weren't huge or slightly missed the mark were still incredible that she tried something new, Madonna is a genuine music legend. This is where the respect for Madonna, Mariah, Celine etc comes from, they dabbled in other areas to make the money but the music was always the main focus for them.
