Rihanna - 9th Album

I really hope SOS will make the setlist. The original #1. Teenage me would cry teebs.

I think Pon De Replay, Unbrella, We Found Love and Work are the only options set in stone.

If she wants a 10 seconds ballad moment Russian Roulette or Unfaithful would make me DIE but i don't think they'd fit the event. For the bangers, Don't Stop The Music and Hard would be huge for the stadium even if they're not the global #1s

Unpopular opionion but I wouldn't be heartbroken if she ditched Work and Needed Me for this fff.

My unrealistic wish is that the performance would kick off with the refrain of “The wait is over” from Wait Your Turn. Obviously she wouldn’t do the song itself (although it’s one of her best), but just that line to open would be spine-tingling. Especially if we don’t hear anything from her music-wise until the performance.

As much as I want to throw in some deep cuts here’s my (somewhat) realistic dream set list:

Run This Town (solo)
Umbrella
Don’t Stop The Music
Pon de Replay
What’s My Name
Work
Diamonds
We Found Love

*if she wants to throw in a quick snippet of Hard to close with ‘that Rihanna reign just won’t let up’ that would be great*

Really hope Diamonds isn’t the closer, there is no other option than WFL, picturing all the energy of the X Factor Final performance x1000

I don't really see her to do much from her first five albums. Umbrella is a given, maybe Pon de Replay and What's My Name too, but that's it. I'm expecting it to be more focused on her last three albums (especially Anti) and big collabs. Fun as it would be, I just can't imagine Rihanna in 2023 whipping out the likes of SOS, Don't Stop The Music, Only Girl, etc

Everybody in this forum predicted the same about Lady Gaga's performance at the Super Bowl and she ended up performing the classic hits. And aside from "Work", all her songs from "Anti" failed to succeed outside the USA. People seem to confuse this as something she will do for the fans and it's not.

I can't even picture her doing "Umbrella," but that might be based on my post-traumatic mind after years of drought rather than on reality. I can't picture her doing... anything until I see it, you know what I mean?

I think a lot of the setlist will depend on what sound she's going for with new material (if she is releasing anything of course). I think We Found Love is the only definite upbeat song I can see being included, as the closer, with Diamonds being the most likely ballad/mid-tempo moment. Transitioning from Diamonds into the slowed down We Found Love, before taking it up to 100, would be iconic.

If she's going for island vibes on the new material, like was rumoured a while (years) ago, I could see these being included;

What's My Name (featuring dancehall breakdown from the X Factor performance)
Work
Pon De Replay
Wild Thoughts
Rude Boy

The options are almost endless though - she really has dozens of songs to choose from that will be recognisable to the locals. I love the idea of starting with 'The wait is over' playing and using 'That Rihanna reign just won't let up' somewhere in the mix too.

The only songs set in stone is ''We Found Love'' and ''Diamonds'' to be honest.

She skipped ''Umbrella'' on her big hits medley and if I'm not wrong she hasn't included ''Pon de Replay'' in her setlists since 2010, let alone perform it.

Have we started talking about special guests? She has so many massive collaboration hits, she could have anyone from Drake, Jay-Z, Eminem to K*nye W*st on that stage.

I'm not sure what the relationship is like between her and Drake nowadays. No chance Kanye signs up for anything that isn't entirely about him, and I'd just as soon she left Eminem out of it.

Jay-Z would be fine, but her catalogue is strong enough that I doubt anyone would miss the collaborations if they weren't included.
