Ok but imagine if she’d released Fire Bomb as the follow up. No one would have survived.

This was a leap of faith that cemented her as more than a regular top 40 popstar - from now on, she was an artist with a message and people stopped and listened. Amazing.
Releasing this as the first single, after such a successful era as Good Girl Gone Bad, was such a ballsy move.

It's too bad it was another four albums before she did anything remotely so brave again, but such is life I guess.
I remember the day it leaked and being so shocked it wasn't a banger and then being very disappointed it "only" peaked at #9 in the US. However looking back it was essential she released this and it probably gave her career extra legs that wouldn't have happened had she gone straight to Loud.
