Rina Sawayama - Hold The Girl

he/him
Geoff Swan's original mixes of the album leaked. Not sure if there's much difference. From what people have said, many of the changes are kinda minor. I'm not an audiophile though so can't confirm since it'll sound the same to me even if not!

The early mixes pretty much fix people's gripes with the finished product, except for Imagining, which sounds better on the album.

What grips do they fix? (Only had a quick listen but it all doesn't sound too different from the final product?)

I think Sam Ryder has done an amazing job of breaking down the perception that the UK taking part is a bit of a joke and has shown that when we take it seriously we can do well.

Unless she went completely left field I don’t see her flopping to the extent of it being damaging to her career.

I’m really not the biggest Eurovision fan but I can only see benefits for someone in Rina’s position, it’s another way for her to build her fan base.

Interesting to read so many comments about "Loreen winning Eurovision 2023" when :

- we haven't heard the song yet
- last time she attempted Melodifestivalen in 2017 she didn't reach the finale
Winning Melodifestivalen (and Eurovision) is a conjecture of many parameters, and "Loreen been Loreen" is not enough here.

If Rina is the UK bet as rumoured - with a right song - she has a fair shot at this and I can't see people not falling for the girl.

Why can't she win?

Oh it just seems unlikely to me given we kinda-sorta-'won' last year, plus the UK won't be particularly keen on hosting twice in a row... I don't know, repping the UK this year doesn't feel like a winner's slot?

I don't know a lot of Eurovision, but I'd have thought the role of anybody representing the host country is to quietly do a decent job and not win the whole thing again, haha.

Obviously in terms of talent, she could and absolutely should win.

Saw her incredible show in Milan at the weekend and it was kind of a game changing moment in my relationship with Rina. I'm just so on board now. She's a fucking killer performer, I didn't see it coming. The vocals! The mild choreo! The charisma!! Crowd was in love with her. And this album remains a major slay.
