RIP Tina Turner (1939-2023)

A very sad day. Another legend gone. As Mariah said, the words icon and superstar are overused but Tina was the definition of those things. A blindingly talented performed, singer and artist. Hardworking, tenacious, one of the most iconic comeback stories of all time. It makes me sad that she said recently that overall the good doesn't outweigh the bad but I hope she lived her last decades happy and knowing how much everyone loved and respected her. Her body of work and talent will live on forever and inspire so many. Rest in peace.

Just looking at her discography and the U.S. really did her dirty on some of her later stuff? I Don't Wanna Fight was her last major Billboard hit. Tracks like GoldenEye and When The Heartache Is Over didn't even make the Hot 100.

Even The Best only made #15. Rude!

This one hits hard, although I guess it was not surprising since she had been having health issues for years.
She was truly one of a kind! My late grandmother adored her, my parents love her and I have been a big fan myself since the 80s. There will never be another one like her!

She had so many great tracks but this one will always be me favorite. RIP dear Tina, my private dancer.

I love how she wan't really ever criticised or mocked. Most other women pop stars usually get some form of criticism whether it's deserved or not, but Tina seemed to avoid this. And rightly so! I love how as a black woman in her mid 40s she hit her critical and commercial peak.

I never really thought about this, but it’s true. It’s probably because she rose above the entire concept of genres, which made her one of those extremely rare artists with near-universal appeal. I mean, you had popstars, rockstars, soul singers and then there was Tina Turner. She could pull off pretty much everything she tried her hand on.

She was also on the only Bryan Adams song I like AND the only Eros Ramazzotti song I like!

Having said what I said above, she was actually almost 50 when she released The Best which is arguably her most famous and iconic song. I just don't see this happening much these days!

Not to mention that she was playing sold out stadiums in the 80s and 90s. Other than Madonna, I'm fairly sure she was the only female artist filling venues that size at the time.

I feel like rewatching What's Love Got To Do With It sometime soon. A tough one for obvious reasons - understandably she declined to watch it herself when it came out - but Angela Bassett is phenomenal in it.
