CANADA VS THE WORLD is a confirmed thing? I-
There's even spoilers!
Has anyone worked on this before? I’ve just applied for a job on the next season…
RuPaul's Drag Race UK star criticises the editing for hindering their career
"They definitely could have included some more of me being me."
RuPaul's Drag Race UK star Anubis has spoken out about how she was edited in the show.
The Brighton-based drag queen was the first star to sashay away on series three. Admitting she wasn't happy with how she was portrayed on screen, Anubis said: "It just didn't reflect my experience.
I mean when you're first out how much of you can they show in 1 60 minute episode in a cast of 12.
From the Meet The Queens and the post elimination interviews, Anubis seemed like a lot of fun. I would really like to see them get another chance on Drag Race at some point.
Say something without saying anything.
How do I put this nicely... The show isn't about you. They film the entire show and then they go in and start editing. They have to provide a narrative rise to victory for the front runners and the final 3/4. They have zero obligation to make you look any sort of way. And Drag Race has a long history of making people who go home look unlikeable or untalented, because then it justifies to the viewer "Okay, that person deserved to go" otherwise there would be a "JUSTICE FOR ____" every episode (ie; Trixie's first elimination they edited in a way that DID make the viewer think that, because they knew she was coming back). But especially for early out queens, they do not do anything of the sort because you are just there to prop up the winners essentially.
...Anyways. If you want to be seen being you, do a documentary. Not reality tv.
I have my sympathies because... they really need to switch up the opening challenge for the UK seasons. I would also feel a bit cheated if I were eliminated entirely on the basis of two runway looks without getting a chance to show off my talents (or lack thereof).
I sympathise with Anubis to a point - it smarts being the first out, and honestly, I think the way DRUK does the first episode challenge, it should strictly be a top 2 situation and start eliminating the girls on a challenge that isn't strictly based on what they bring with them.
But that being said, if you're going to be an early out - first out is where you want to go really, because the fans will always be left wanting more, and the next 3 placements get lost in the mix and eventually forgotten.
I feel like it’s been years and years since a queen was eliminated in week 1 of US Drag Race so I do sympathise with UK contestants but at the same time I hate that no one gets eliminated week 1 on the US version, at the end of the day someone has to go first.
Season 3 was shit, wasn't it?
It had potential, but I just think the fact was season two was such a power house and kept the public gripped (even past the finale airing) showed whatever followed would fall flat.
Season 3 had the unfortunate task of following Season 2, and the most interesting cast members (Victoria, Charity, River & Choriza) left in near-rapid succession.
UK Season 2 remains with All Stars 2 as the best seasons of Drag Race ever.
Krystal, Choriza, River and Vanity were the only saving graces - the rest were unlikeable or forgettable or both in some cases dd.
Honestly, for a first out, I feel like I know plenty about Anubis???
It wasn't great, it felt very... joyless overall. I feel like Kitty was the only one who brought any fun to the competition. Following Season 2 was the biggest issue but there were definitely other things at play that stopped it living up to its full potential.
I've heard that the cast are being revealed at Manchester Pride again this year.
