RuPaul's Drag Race UK (S6)

Great season.

Suspect they might line La Voix up for a US All Stars run a la Jimbo? But potentially they just felt she was in too similar a lane to recent winners and wanted to change it up.

Oh well, doesn't really matter in the end. Great TV, great Queens. A triumph!

Before the season started airing and people knew La Voix was in the final two, there was this odd kind of anger making out that she was the obvious winner and the UK was getting another same type of winner.
Now she hasn't won, people are angry saying she should have won. It's great the airing of the actual series can switch the narrative of those who form an opinion beforehand.

I’m sure your commentary here is broader here than the back-and-forth we had in the Spoilers thread, but I’d just like to reiterate for the record that I did say on numerous occasions that I was sure that the final two would be more than justified in their placements, and just that it was disappointing that Rileasa wasn’t eligible for the win as she would’ve provided a unique perspective on the crop of UK winners.

Which was probably La Voix’s undoing here, and I imagine there might’ve been an interesting friction here between the global team at WoW versus those here in the UK. I can very much see Brits working on the show would’ve pulled for a La Voix win to immediately insert her into as many presenting opportunities going as possible, whereas Kyran feels like more of the marketing choice on a global WoW scale.

A pity, as I can’t see La Voix coming back for an All Stars of sorts in the way that I think Kyran would’ve - alas. Fantastic season overall though, definitely one for the books.

Would also like to echo the sentiment that The Vivienne has proven herself to be amongst the strongest winners across any Drag Race franchise, and very much deserved her win on S1.

Drag Race has crafted some truly satisfying winner arcs in recent years, only to consistently discard them at the last minute and crown someone else.

This year alone we've seen Nehellania, La Voix, Aurora, Roxxxy, and Marina Summers all be universally accepted as the most suitable winners by the fanbase, only for them to be pushed aside for the clear judges favourites.

A bewildering result has kind of become the new standard for a finale episode, but I'm not sure where the motivation lies... Is the final decision actually RuPaul's to make, and that's why his golden children are winning the crown? Do they just not care about pleasing the fanbase? Is it all just an exercise in manufacturing outrage and building a stonger list of 'robbed' contestants for future All Stars?

Whatever the reason, I feel pretty burnt out and have long lost the excitement I used to feel about new seasons.

I am disappointed in the result as Kyran started strong but seemed to slow down, whereas La Voix just got stronger and stronger each week. But I can see La Voix completely sweeping a VS the World season (which means more prize money)!

That's probably Ru's intention is to get more seasons out of her - I don't think I'd see La Voix saying yes to All Stars if she won, but Vs The World or regular All Stars, I absolutely see happening.

I think Kyran represents where UK drag is right now - more alternative and rough around the edges, so she definitely is a worthy winner, but if she and La Voix had more of a back and forthwith the wins throughout the season, it'd be a far less confusing result.

Yes if they'd spread the earlier wins around a little more and not given them a joint Snatch Game win (which I don't think either deserved tbh) it might have felt more satisfying storytelling wise.

I can’t see La Voix returning. Her arc on the show was seasoned professional / industry veteran finally agrees to compete and sweeps the competition (only to not be crowned in favour of someone who performed worse but was younger).

I’d feel mugged off if I were her.

I’m in the same place too. If I was her, I’d be thinking what would be the point and what would she get out of doing a Versus The World or All Stars? I do wonder if they’ll ask her to return but won’t bother.

She’s also been silent on social media, which I know might not mean very much, but I do wonder how she’s feeling today.

He / Him
Ginger is absolutely beautiful, always found them super attractive! Ginger is still the only queen who has won that I've backed to win for the finale and the weeks leading up to it.

S1 Divina
S2 Bimini (though Tayce was my fave)
S3 N/A...
S4 Cheddar
S5 Ginger
S6 La Voix

No one can convince me that anything Kyran displayed was new/fresh/"current". The talking heads/general demeanour got progressively more irritating as the weeks rolled by, with some serious misplaced arrogance to boot.

A tragic end to a pretty fantastic season and for the most part a lovely group of girls.

Agreed.

I said it some pages back but i think it bears repeating: The show has become so formulaic now that it’s easy for the more calculated queens to study the show, learn what Ru likes, and then just deliver that. This is all I could think whenever Kyran was on screen.

Her talent show performance is a good example. It’s just recycling the kooky / weird schtick that Willow Pill and Jimbo did that Ru absolutely ate up. It got praised to the high heavens by the judges because it’s not been seen on a UK season before but it’s nothing new or original in the bigger scheme of things, in fact it’s tired at this point.

I feel like Kyran played the game to impress Ru but she (and the producers) forgot there’s an audience at home that also has to fall in love with you.

By contrast La Voix is so effortlessly charming and charismatic and I much preferred her attitude of - “This is my style of drag, take it or leave it. It might be considered old fashion but it’s what I do and I do it very well.”
