S Club 7 - RIP Paul Cattermole <3

I know its not a great song but I kind of wish we could get a full 6-piece rendition of Family. Would be a fitting tribute, I think.

I think someone in this thread mentioned that it was recorded by the whole group for the last reunion but nothing ever happened with it. So I did wonder if we’ll hear that at some point. Cant say I’m a huge fan of that song though, mostly because of the chorus.

I’ve kinda Stockholm syndromed myself into quite liking it now - but definitely not up to their usual calibre

Yep they all recorded it originally.

I heard a very weird news story on the radio saying friends of Paul's had been "seriously concerned" about him because he'd become "very quiet" recently. I couldn't help but feel the story was prepping us for the saddest possible cause of death. God I really hope not.

So far, the reporting on Paul’s death I think has been fucking atrocious.

The gutter press are really diving deep into his personal affairs aren’t they? Why on earth they feel the need to include the value of his flat in headlines I’ll never know.

I never saw the article of him walking in the woods as it’s been (conveniently) deleted. But, I can only imagine it was one of them bloody ‘pop star looks unrecognisable! Can you guess who it is?’.

As much as Let Me Sleep is sad the sentiment of the song is actually really comforting now. I’m so glad they left Paul’s vocals on it too. I’ll be using it a lot. What a song!
What’s the time code for Paul’s line? I tried to find it yesterday out of curiosity but had no luck

I've always been curious where the cut off was. What songs was Paul present for and what songs were recorded after his departure?

Clearly Alive and Let Me Sleep, obviously.

Weird I never watched the full You’re My Number One performance because I thought it was completely mimed. Very random for Paul to take the middle 8 and then Jo goes back to miming her adlibs.

I think at the time, Jo was heavily smoking and her vocals were damaged because of it. I remember clips of her during the S Club 3 nightclub phase and her voice cracking or sounding weak - I imagine it was handed to Paul as Jo could not vocally maintain the performance. If I remember correctly Jo didn’t sing live on the reunion tour until Two In a Million, no?

Yeah! The whole first section was completely mimed. Depending on the night, Jo would either mime or sing her parts in Bring It All Back, Never Had A Dream Come true etc.

If they do go ahead with the tour it will be interesting if Jo sings more live. Her voice has improved so much since then.

A couple days on from the devastating news, and it still doesn't seem overly real.
I was at work, and one of my colleagues asked me if I'd heard the news, so I looked at my phone and the first thing that came up was the Instagram post from the official S Club 7 page, announcing Paul's death. I was so taken aback.

Paul was such an integral part of the band, with some brilliant moments to show for it (the Reach middle 8, his solo on Sunshine, which personally is one of my favourite tracks on that album, his vocals on Let Me Sleep). To think that he is no longer here is such a shame. I hope the band, and of course, his friends and family are doing well with the news.

I'm going to three dates of the tour in October, and it will be such a bittersweet moment, knowing that the band are back up there doing what want to do, yet with that horrible realisation that one of the members will not be there to share the joy they will bring to the fans. Whatever they decide to do (seeing the press today, it looks like they will be going ahead), the fans will absolutely be 100% behind them

I'm listening to the Greatest Hits now, and I don't even want to think about how it'll be when the ballads come on. I'll be continuing my re-watch of the TV series too.
