I'm a bit late to the game, but did Tulisa seriously say she didn't know "Think" by Aretha Franklin? Surely this is a problem if you're trying to present yourself as an "urban" artist?

That song brought back to memory of those Co-op adverts with the animated sheep.

Couldn't believe that Tulisa chose to save Craig. I thought his sing-off was awful - he seemed to have no idea what the song was about (and sung by a man, it makes very little sense anyway).

I don't generally go for these conspiracies, but all I can think of is that she wanted less competition for her act.

I actually think Craig was better in the sing-off, and this is from someone who drinks from the weekly font of haterade when it comes to the Colton. Quite glad to see that Kelly's Girls are dominating just like they ought to be. I can deal with 4/5 of these lot being winners; anyone but Shouty McShoutShout.

What's wrong with a 20 year old English girl not knowing a 40 year old song sung by a foreigner?

I'm assuming this is a joke, especially the "foreigner" part. Most Tulisa's favourite artists I'm guessing are foreigners.

All I can think is the producers wanted deadlock.

Hahah yes!

I didn't know the song, my mum didn't either. I'm not bothered that Tulisa didn't but it was silly that she said it was a wrong song choice simply because she hadn't heard it.

Why should anyone, even someone with a strong interest in pop music, have to know every song, by every artist in every country for the past 100 years.

Unless they have made some high impact on UK charts, they are of no interest.

Even with so called current artists, for instance, who could even name a single Garth Brookes song?

I'd even be struggling with Taylor Swift and Lil Wayne, both huge American sellers, they are not relevant to the UK public or me.

Its just one of those songs that most people just know because its been played on tv shows in the background, in movies, etc, and its been used on American Idol several times (not that I expect Tulisa to watch that). Its a bit shocking that an urban artist would not be at least familiar with the music of one of the great soul singers of all time. Its not an obscure song.

It's absolutely fine for an individual not to know a particular song - I'm completely certain there must be incredibly famous and influential songs I have no familiarity with. While I think if you make music your business, it pretty much falls to you to be as knowledgeable about it as is practially possible, I don't think anyone's saying Tulisa should be an expert in all music made in the last half century.

I think people are mostly surprised because it's such an instantly recognisable song for many people. It may have only made the UK top 30 (though I have to take extreme exception to your comment that songs are of no interest if they didn't make the upper reaches of the UK charts - heaven knows we don't want the X Factor to become any more parochial and insular than it already is, this is supposed to be all about finding someone with the potential to be a global star, after all), but it's one of the signature songs by the most famous and influential female soul act of all time, and it's had a far-reaching afterlife in popular culture.

I don't think that's why she was saying it was the wrong choice really though. Either way, she was right, considering Amelia was bottom 2.

I just think Amelia's song was too high for her. It didn't show off her voice. She sang okay, but she hasn't had a chance to build up a fan base so it needed to be perfect. Maybe Tulisa would have recognised the song if she'd heard the original.

It was really cruel and unnecessary of Barlow to criticize Amelia the way he did when there was a strong chance it was her last moments in the competition. He's such an insecure nasty little bitch. He must have a small winkle or something.

I think Amelia and Little Mix are the only ones who could have a credible and successful career.

Agreed.

I'm not sure Amelia has the support of the public though. All that hype about a huge return from Amelia and she's in the bottom two already. Little Mix will do very well though.

I feel bad for Craig. Comnpared to Misha and Kitty, for him to be in the bottom two the first time ever and still be sent home must hurt. Both Amelia and Craigs performances were equally as weak. But, then again, how embarrassing would it be if she left as soon as she came in.

Meeeeee. But Garth Brooks is my very favorite artist ever and he sings my favorite song so... I'm probably an outlier.

It's fine not to know songs. I've said it before; I don't know most of the songs they sing on X Factor. I don't like most of the songs they sing on X Factor. But I still enjoy the show. For instance, I'd never heard the song Little Mix sang and I didn't particularly like the song either, but I loved their performance of it.
