Sam Smith - Gloria

Sam brought Kim out during the Jingle Bell performance and it was all sorts of tragic.
She couldn't even try to begin to lipsynch correctly:

How is this song smashing when every person I know hates it and everyone online is dragging them? I truly think that the bulk of people streaming are only looping the intro and never heard the full song.

Between this and some of the rotted comments I've seen about Sam's body on social media since the Jingle Bell Ball performance...this song is just bringing out the worst in everyone

I didn't think Jesy Nelson's performance could ever be topped for excruciating embarrassment at Jingle Ball but here we are. Kim literally having negative charisma is truly something to behold.

Maybe I was misunderstood but I was in no way commenting on Sam's look. Their new approach to looks/costumes and general aesthetic are honestly the only redeemable part of this whole campaign. The song is just cursed from the start, I fear.

Oh I wasn't referring to you (I agree with your post that I quoted), I was talking about comments I've seen on social media. Sorry, I should've been clearer dddd

Yeah it’s funny how personally people will take a queer person expressing themselves. The comments on social media are brainless, the ‘I miss how Sam used to be’ ones and the endless comments on their appearance just show that people will use any excuse to be transphobic and attack a queer person, whether that’s through attacking their appearance or just blatantly continuing to misgender them.

Also I wasn’t a massive fan of Sam’s outfit, because it’s not my style, but if they’re happy wearing something, who literally gives a shit.

I'm still really sad that Sam didn't continue in the direction they were going in 2019. They really seemed to have found a sweet spot.

Also, I forgot how much I loved this song till I heard it the other day. Deserved the same success as Latch, imo

Fat queer people get treated like garbage so quelle surprise at Sam getting shit on. This is why I had a problem with the “Sam doesn’t pull off being sexy” conversation, because it reeks of these undertones. Even queer people seem to have a problem with people who don’t fit into “acceptable” molds. It’s pathetic.

The outfit is ugly but if Harry or Conan Gray wore it nobody would give a fuck.

It’s so, so obvious why Sam is treated the way they are by the gay community - they aren’t deemed fuckable enough.

There are plenty of gay singers deemed fuckable who would get grilled for being "too gay" if they wore what Sam wore. There's a reason why Ricky Martin still grinds on female models in his video clips. But for some reason many in the gay community love it when straights pretend to be queer, as if it's some sort of validation.

In a nutshell, you can be queer but don't shove it in our faces because it makes cis people uncomfortable. But a straight singer is playing with fashion and gets Gucci ad campaigns.

Hmm… it goes beyond just that though. Sam has made choices that have have somewhat affected their brand over the years.

For starters, a lot of people don’t seem to like Sam’s personality. I remember them being called out for claims they made during their Oscar speech that turned out to be incorrect.

Then we consider the fact that Sam released a string of incredible singles (How Do You Sleep?, Dancing With a Stranger and Diamonds) to follow it up with the the least thrilling album physically possible. Horribly ironic, given it’s title.

And then teaming up with that producer’s biggest cheerleader/fan, on such a terrible song, and it inexplicably smashing… a terrible case of a popinjustice indeed.
