Sam Smith - Gloria

“Lose You” really follows the vibe of the 2019 songs. What a bop. If you scrape together tracks from the last two albums plus the stray singles, you can get a pretty great album with a cohesive sound and theme

  1. Lose You
  2. Diamonds
  3. How Do You Sleep?
  4. Another One
  5. My Oasis
  6. Dancing With a Stranger
  7. So Serious
  8. Promises
  9. Dance (‘Til You Love Someone Else)
  10. For the Lover That I Lost

I enjoy Sam on occasion. I think they look happy and engaging in the new video. I just wish they'd wear a little more make-up and really COMMIT to the looks.

There is honestly a lot to be said about the fact that a lot of the hate (that I can say is coming from cis white gay men) is directly stemming from the fact they are not sexually attracted to Sam and had ANY cisgender white twunk been in the same video with the same settings, styling and storyboards, they would be lapping it up as a serve.

It has nothing to even do with the song and the video is so sexually tame, it’s laughable that is the rhetoric the press and twitter is spewing. It’s about the trans joy and body positivity emanating from this video.
Exactly this. It was only a couple of months ago everyone seemed to be fawning over this model's reveal when he took off his blazer.

I hope Sam is surrounded by people because the comments I've seen are disgusting.

Will be interesting to see where Gloria debuts on the UK and American charts.

The charts aren't everything, but after the TikTok assisted runaway success of Unholy - let's see if it translates into album sales?

Oddly enough Young from Love Goes pretty much addresses a lot of the hatred they get.
I wanna be wild and young
And not be afraid to lose
Cry on my own
Me and my bottle
These are the things I choose
But they're watching me, judging me
Making me feel so used
Can't you see
That all I wanna do is
Get a little wild
Get a little high
Kiss a hundred boys and
Not feel like I'm tied to them
If you wanna judge me, then
Go and load the gun
I've done nothing wrong

I'm young
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
I wanna fight
And fall off the tables
Then wait to regret last night
My heavy heart pounds deep like a dagger
'Cause I'm not afraid
To bite
But they're watching me, judging me
Making me feel so used
Can't you see
That all I wanna do is
Get a little wild
Get a little high
Kiss a hundred boys and
Not feel like I'm tied to them
If you wanna judge me, then
Go and load the gun
I've done nothing wrong
I'm young
Get a little wild
Get a little high
Kiss a hundred boys and
Not feel like I'm tied to them
If you wanna judge me, then
Go and load the gun
I've done nothing wrong
I'm young

I actually don't mind Love Me More...
The lyrics really got to me. Gloria (the interlude) is really good too.

Other than their straining voice I have to admit I've liked all of Sam's alberms. But I cannot for the life of me stand Unholy (especially Kim's verse).

It's great that there's conversations around this now and calling the double standards. I've been and continue to be guilty of being shady towards Sam but I've really tried to asses what's rooted in internalised phobia and what's actually valid criticism / stylistic preference.

I wish the music and styling weren't so hodgepodge. Imagine if a brilliant album and actually disruptive, clever fashion was attached to this.

These things always make me boil. It's always the muscle / masculine-presenting males who literally put on a pearl necklace and are deemed as culturally-shifting, boundary-breaking, kind-of-sexy-if-you-really-think-about-it.

Fact. You know if Harry Styles did this the general public would be pissing themselves with enjoyment.

I keep thinking about this, because after the onslaught of harry styles press and the straights fawning over him and buying up stadiums for the past 18months because he put some pearls on... and we all had to be quiet and eat our food because we don't want to criticise someone's gender expression (even if its crafted by PR and fashion designers/stylists- but thats another conversation).

But when a non-binary queer person puts on some pearls, wow bets are off and fury is unleashed in a completely hateful way.

So over the double standard, especially in this terf era of politics. Which also makes what Sam is doing really brave and admirable because they actually have skin in the game.

This may be incoherent but I'm just sick of queer people having to clear some mysterious higher hurdles
