I've loved this show since the beginning and I'm sad at the thought of it not getting renewed, but it feels fairly likely it won't. It doesn't seem to me like there's much promotion for this season. With previous seasons it felt like they really put Drew and Timothy out on the circuit and this time I think Drew did Live With Kelly and GMA and thats about it. I think Tim did Conan a month ago. Plus with Netflix seeming to have a 3 seasons and axe policy with comedies, I'm afraid they won't get to live out the initial 5 season plan.

This season was really funny to me. Season 2's finale is still the height of the series to me, but this season was equally strong across the board. Its a shame Drew and Timothy have gotten zero award season love, because they're both excellent. I feel like the show would maybe have had a bigger audience if it had a different title. Santa Clarita Diet is a really funny title when you know what the show is about, but if you don't it doesn't tell you much.

Not sure I agree @Drew, this type of show definitely benefits from 'word of mouth' and I knew a few people really excited when it came back. Even found out my parents watch it. I think it gets good reviews and strong viewing figures. I don't know if they'll get to five seasons but I'm confident we will get at least one more.

These two articles actually go hand-in-hand in regards to this very quote.

I would keep hope alive, Netflix can’t keep cancelling everything....right?

Its been canned.

The third season of Netflix's Drew Barrymore- and Timothy Olyphant-led zombie comedy Santa Clarita Diet will be its last.

The streaming giant has opted to cancel the series from showrunner Victor Fresco. The decision comes as a bit of a surprise given the star power attached to the wacky comedy about a married couple in suburbia and and the fact that the series is owned and produced in-house at Netflix.

"Of all of the characters I’ve ever been, Sheila Hammond is one of my favorites," star and EP Barrymore said. "She and Joel were an amazing couple, who had shared goals. And i am lucky to have worked along side Tim Olyphant. It was an honor to get to do something so delightful. Sheila lives forever in me. And I am grateful to Victor Fresco, who created a world so unique."

Damn that sucks.

Probably pretty low... it’s a shame because it’s a solid series. If only they could give us a special to wrap it all up.

Most of the shows on Netflix that get cancelled after the third season usually has to do with the pay increase that is supposed to happen after that season. If it isn’t a big enough pull, they can it.

We should've seen this coming considering the rate at which Netflix was green lighting series was completely unsustainable, but to lose completely promising shows like Sense8, One Day At A Time, and Santa Clarita Diet while dreck like The Ranch keep getting renewed has me fuming.

I can't remember where I read it now but I'm sure there used to be some kind of consensus that Netflix would be beneficial for more niche shows since they aren't as beholden to ratings. If something appealed to a niche and kept them subscribing then the theory was that it would be more likely to survive as part of Netflix's library than in a prime time slot on network TV where advertising revenue is everything.

It feels like that's falling by the wayside, if it was indeed ever really true at all. It feels like shows that don't bring in huge numbers are no more likely to survive on Netflix than they were anywhere else. It's all about finding the next Stranger Things now, it seems.

This is the only show that really had me staying subscribed to Netflix since A Series of Unfortunate Events ended and the other shows I watch I could just... download.

They said the storyline was a five season one so it’s gutting they couldn’t work out something to just get those last two seasons.
