Saturday Night Live

I’ve been really enjoying the Lonely Island Digital Shorts recap podcast hosted by Seth Meyers along with The Lonely Island. The boys have an incredible rapport and its like listening to four good friends enjoying being back together and reminiscing about their job. The main focus are the Digital Shorts but also recap Seth’s time as a head writer and other sketches. Really fun listen about the BTS of the mid 2000s SNL years which was when I started watching.

Chloe Troast not being asked back is a bit of a shocker especially when Micheal Longfellow and Devon Walker have been promoted despite not really doing much for the last year. I feel like she was given a lot of great opportunities and delivered consistently.

Hope she goes on to be those one season wonders who thrives post show.

She was so promising, I'm genuinely shocked she wasn't asked to come back. What a shame.

That was a dire episode. Felt like a wasted opportunity being the premiere of the 50th season. Jean Smart felt largely wasted. The I Love Lucy sketch was mildly amusing. But, oof, Lorne needs a new writing staff.

“Funny you should mention your husband, Louise. Because your husband? Made a pass at me? At the Kentucky Derby.”

“That’s ’cause he thought you were a horse, BITCH!

Jean Smart deserved so much better than whatever that episode was.

It kinda felt like Bowen was the host?

With the marquee name women - Cecily, Kate, Aidy, - gone, Bowen is 100% the star of the show. Heidi and Ego right up there next to him. Chloe… she’s great, but for me personally she feels inconsequential. I like her when she’s there but I never notice when she’s not and I don’t miss her.

Sorry for the double post, I randomly thought of Chloe Troast today and I just cannot believe she was let go. I don't want to throw anyone under the bus, but there are a lot of cast members who've been there for years who still haven't made as big a splash as she did in just her first (and sadly only) season.

I thought the Coolidge sketch was like taking your nieces and nephews to the playground. You could tell they were having fun.

The family game night sketch was a hoot, though. I love it when they drop those weird, left-of-center one time only sketches in there. Those sketches that you just know Lorne was like "really??" on and Bowen somehow convinced him to keep it.

Anyone watch the Saturday Night film? I thought it was great.
I watched it this weekend and enjoyed it. Made me want to reread the Saturday Night Live history book I have.

Very much the epitomy of a justified underdog tale; it was expected to fail but has become the cultural cornerstone that it is today.
