Ugh, even though there are a million things I'd do differently to Scream 3, the easiest would have been having Jennifer stumble out of another secret passage at the end. I mean, I know they had to tone down the deaths so most everyone only got stabbed once---hell they didn't have to write anything. Parker Posey ad-libbed so much, I can easily see her cracking some joke about having practice acting dead as she played a dead hooker on every cop/law procedural tv show in the 90s. As much as I love her, no more retconning...even though I don't think of Kirby so much as a retcon, instead being the last creative touch Wes gave to the franchise as he himself was the main proponent of the theory we didn't technically see her die.

And the film makers have been pretty open about wanting to make more of these movies so I wouldn't count on them killing everyone off in '7' or even bringing Sidney back to be honest. Those opening numbers have shown that with the right marketing fans will show up to the move without Neve being involved. I would also, personally, like to see Sam and Tara's storyline concluded (especially Sam) and bringing Sidney back would water that all down.

I see them keeping it open for Kirby to come back down the line, but I don’t see her returning in the next film.

I don't count Kirby as a retcon since her death was supposed to be ambiguous, and it being confirmed she's alive in the sequel immediately after the movie where she almost died works. People like Jennifer have been dead for over 20 years, both in the movie universe and real life. It'd be off-putting at best to just have them suddenly be alive after all this time, as much as I love her.
That said, they can totally bring Parker back as Jennifer's twin sister or something. Same with Sarah/Cici or Samara/Laura.

I’ve been manifesting a Gale centered sequel, just like I manifested New York and I’m going to say Jennifer returning lines up perfectly with that. Jennifer wasn’t friends with anybody, so her being alive wouldn’t be a stretch. Scream 6 had multiple people survive fatal injuries. Jennifer teaming up with Gale again is the stuff that dreams are made of.

BUT realistically, they aren’t going to do a Gale movie which is why I’d love for them to pivot and give Gale and Jennifer a limited series on Paramount Plus.

It’s fun to hear them describe it as a secret feel good movie because they totally nailed it. I can’t remember the last time I left the cinema thinking ‘that was just a fucking good time.’

I’m not sure I need all the legacy cast back in every movie (especially now they’ve broken the cycle with Sidney) but I definitely want Kirby to pop up again.

I’d argue that people coming back would make more sense with the new films embracing their franchise roots. If 6 taught us anything, is that you can survive almost anything. They didn’t even show the after effects of Tara, Mindy or Chad’s attacks. Jennifer surviving a couple stabs to the back would be nothing.

This. If we’re saying no to retconning a death we didn’t even fully see, we can’t not admit that at least 4 of the remaining main characters really should be very, very dead.

We've had two movies now setting up these characters so why waste time in the next one bringing back yet another character from the dead, especially one with no connection to the newbies or any plausible reason for them being there at all?
As good fun as Jennifer was, there is absolutely no reason at all to have her a) be alive or b) show up again. Same with every other character who is dead. It only really worked for Kirby because in Scream 4 you could hear her moving about below during a scene with Sidney.
