Selena Gomez - I Said I Love You First

The album really nosedives after Bluest Flame. The vocal processing on How Does It Feel to Be Forgotten is wild. That and Do You Wanna Be Perfect make an atrocious one-two. Ojos Tristes sparkles, but so much of it isn't her. I wouldn't call it a return to form. The few highs here are decent but the lows are turgid compared to Rare. (Love the way the thread title simply doesn't acknowledge Benny Blanco.)

Yeah, the entire album has this undertone of Lana. There's a few gems that feel in-line with Rare, in a way where if you liked that, you'll enjoy it here

Don't Wanna Cry
How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten
Don't Take It Personally
Talk
Stained (it's from those sessions)

Younger and Hotter (despite not being the strongest song) as a video and message is probably one of her best. And then Bluest Flame is fine in a Charli way.

Okay I spun this out of morbid curiosity expecting it to be some acoustic duets album but I am high-key loving this. Colour me shook; once again I am stanning a Selena Gomez album. It feels like a natural evolution of the Rare sound with some darker and stranger, more -atmospheric- undertones. Don't Wanna Cry is a lush 80's leaning moment. Cowboy is giving me Addison Rae Style Born to Die Era Lana cosplay but again it's done so well I can't help but stan. How Does It Feel to Be Forgotten is giving me surprisingly bitter downtempo moment like Carly Rae's Go Find Yourself or Whatever; it's surprisingly effective, and she sounds really quite lovely on it. I also love Sunset Bvld. Why has this album been marketed the way it has? I'm glad she's happy but this is actually a pretty great collection of pop songs that didn't need a gimmick like this to sell it, in fact I think the Benny thing is stopping people from checking it out. I want to buy a vinyl but I just don't like the covers - maybe I'm just a hater because she's all loved up and I'm not dd.
