Selena Gomez - Rare

The performance was terrible and I really can't understand anyone making it out to be good or even okay. Like, even if you're fine with her standing there blatantly lipsyncing to an autotuned backing track, the sheer sadness and lack of interest emanating from her should give pause. She looked like she wanted to be anywhere but on that stage.

The performance was absolutely fine, the meltdowns are needless.
Sis... that was not absolutely fine. I get that the concept of the performance was that she had just been hit by a car, but the way she basically stumbled and scowled her way through the choreography in an alarmingly lethargic manner, coupled with the terrible lipsyncing (with a pre-rec that sounded like even it had to be corrected!) made for an absolute trainwreck. And she knew it too, judging from her miserable sign off.

Yeah I don't get why she lipped when there was absolutely no need to, that's the only thing she was supposed to be doing as she din't even have a choreo to follow other than be thrown around the stage. Also I don't know if that was the intention but she seemed genuinely sad (specially in the end) and that made me kinda sad as well, I really hope she's okay and in peace. And if she hates performing that much she should't do it imo.

I thought you lot were exaggerating but my god, that was dire. And actually kind of uncomfortable to watch. Her hair looks awful too, on a shallow note (the wet hair, she looks good on the red carpet).

She's been saying for ages that she doesn't want to be "famous anymore" and that she can't wait for "people to forget" about her, so it's pretty obvious she doesn't want to do all this anymore.
Then... don't book the AMAs. Don't record a song with the hottest DJ of the moment for no other reason than to get a quick smash. Don't post on Instagam. Don't have an Instagram. Or maybe give it another six months and see how she feels when the immediate trauma of her surgery and various medical problems have dulled. There is no reason for her to be on that stage if doesn't want to, and last night, it was abundantly clear she didn't want to.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I mean, I understand she probably has recording contracts to uphold and whatever, but surely she should just do a Miley and buy herself out of it.

Was the entire thing not supposed to be that she just got hit by a car. I genuinely don't understand. Did people want her to look overjoyed?

The miming etc I completely get, that's not what I'm disagreeing with. But surely her entire vibe was the concept of the performance...? To make that about the year she's had seems like a reach.

Why was she putting in more effort in pretending to sing then she usually does when she sings live? She's not great at all but Wolves kinda knocks.

Well, that's both my point and not my point. Yes, she could easily step away... but she's very clearly not going to, so I don't buy any meek protests about not wanting to be famous or a singer any more when, despite what must a wealth of money in the bank, she's not really making any moves to dissolve either of those statuses. Like, stop talking shit. You want to be a rich, successful, famous popstar. Just... do it properly. That goes for Miley too.

She didn't match whatever vibe they were reaching though. She was completely at odds with the drama around her and was the weak link in what should have been a pretty easy performance. I mean, she couldn't even get pushed and pulled around the stage and mime well...

And honestly, saying that maybe her medical troubles this year are to blame is really the only saving grace, because if she's 100% in the game at the moment and that's the best she could do, then is truly, utterly unable as a popstar... but then I've thought that for years anyway, so.

Oof. This Avicii-ass campfire bop charmlessly served up as some morose Texas Eardrum Massacre is seriously what she chose to do for her would-be triumphant comeback?

I'd want my kidney back.

...and I was going to say I'm glad to see you back.
