Severance (Apple TV+)

Just finished and yeah that was pretty insane. I don’t even know what to think yet.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this plot hole though - or what seems like one:
when outie Mark entered the room to see Gemma, why didn’t he turn back into his innie? Gemma was clearly an innie in the room until she went back out?

I also agree with people saying the C&M department did seem a little overkill, plus the lack of security in the building this season never made sense. So a couple of things took me out of a bit.

Overall though, I just feel so heartbroken for Gemma.

I think those testing rooms must operate differently than the standard severed checkpoints, since they made it to where Gemma specifically turned into a different innie in every one of those rooms she went in. She likely had procedures done that Mark did not have (and however the MDR refining affected her) so it wouldn't have worked on him

I don't think the chips are simply and on and off switch but rather work sort of like security personnel cards. You would need to have the on switch for that particular room to enable the switch. His is purely for his floor where he works. There were enough safeguards for him to ideally not make it down to where Gemma is on a normal day.

I understand the security thing but my mind always chalked it up to anything that is highly confidential – the easiest way to keep it a secret is to limit the amount of people that know which would be reason enough for Lumon wanting to keep numbers down on the floors. Plus, if you have severed people, you don't really need to have security beyond the few people Milchick and Drummond.

The all that they are

The Sugababes are looking well

Finale was insane. I find myself rooting for innie Mark so much now

I don't know is this will maybe be explored in the next season, but do we know how exactly did Lumon "kidnap" Gemma (with a seemingly fake car accident), and why her specifically? Would they have known that her mourning husband would decide to get severed and thus have his innie "work" with hers, and work on MDR?

Maybe not that important but those questions just popped into my head.

I'm presuming the reason she was taken was because Lumon probably were secretly screening her (and everyone else) at those fertility clinics, and maybe they discovered Gemma's brain/body is more receptive to being severed, especially a lot of times.

But also I'm wondering what the other MDR workers are actually doing - because if Mark is needed to work on Gemma, then who are the others refining? Or are they literally only there so Mark thinks he's actually working in an office fff

I was thinking about this though and this doesn’t really make sense. Marks chip worked in the birthing cabin too, so it doesn’t only work on the severed floor.

Yeah I think there may be different barriers that activate different aspects of the chip. It was mentioned that Gemma had 25 distinct innies that got activated in different rooms.

But I was looking at my phone a lot so I might have missed something.

Yes those rooms specifically are separated tempers, which I think operate differently then simple severance.

I didn't quite get why Mark had to refine Gemma's tempers, though. Because he knew her best? Seems sort of flimsy, unless I'm misunderstanding Cobel's explanation.

My assumption based on Gwendoline Christie's "how many more?" line is that Gemma and Mark are not the first subjects to test how to completely strip someone of their tempers. With the doctor also appearing at the fertility clinic, I think this is an operation they've been running for awhile.
