Severance (Apple TV+)

If you don't like 9 episodes, maybe just stop watching.

That was brilliant but I have a question.

How on earth do Mark S and Helly R think they can be together? Where were they running to? The minute they leave the floor, they’re gone. Are they planning to set up camp in a conference room and play happy families?
Well Jame has quite explicitly offered to Helly an outie life. She could take it.

For once I watched the after credits comments of Ben Stiller who was also giving insight of the final scene, with the main couple running into the sun down on the hills at the end of the movie, except they're in Lumon corridors and there's no hope.

I haven’t read through the thread to avoid spoilers, but I just finished season one and…I do not get the hype for this show at all dd. I feel the duck reactions coming in droves, but it took slow burn all the way to hell and back. I felt like 80% of the season was just one long, drawn out setup for the final two episodes.

Now the finale was good, if a bit predictable. I also have the, I’m sure, very unpopular opinion that Patricia was miscast in this. Maybe it’s because I just hear “Gypsy!!” every time she’s angry, but alas.

This was meant to be a niche show that got a bit too big for its own good. Even back in season one what drew me in was the outstanding cinematography, production design, art direction, the symmetrical shots that would do numbers on Tumblr etc. It's clearly a passion project, not a plot-driven Sunday primetime show so the hype is a little misleading I guess. I hope they don't try to make it less weird for the new crowd it attracts.

I cannot believe this photo. She's serving Lady Gaga in a way that I mean with ferocious compliments. Sis is glowing in the open air of Earth's atmosphere!

I've had ample time to reflect on the finale since my initial, completely involuntary reaction of anger at Mark (as a whole entity, really) for not opening the damn door. I'm less angry, more understanding, and really just want Mark to be happy.

I'm still primarily mad because
Gemma is in serious danger just hanging out there in the stairwell!?!?!? and if S3 starts with her on the testing floor again I will need a week to cool down before I proceed watching. I'm also not particularly keen on a whole season of Innie vs. Outie Mark because I imagine that'll involve a bunch of scenarios that are just frustrating to watch. It worked very well as a device in the finale, but they shouldn't overdo it.

I understand Mark's innie self suddenly becoming aware of his "mortality" at the physical threshold of his consciousness. My instinct as a viewer with a toxic relationship with Mark, is Cobelesque (à la her few words to innie Mark at the cabin): This entire reality of innie Mark's is just a creation of Lumon's. As is Helly R. Ensuring the wellbeing of innie Mark, at this point, requires that "the good guys" have control over his severance. If he wasn't running on adrenaline and existential angst at the stairwell exit, innie Mark should've left simply trusting Gemma and Mark is a waaaay better move than hanging around Lumon hoping for the best after killing Drummond and doing whatever Milchick got after the marching band performance dd.

I get that innie Mark's teenager-y (that's a good way of putting it!) mindset -- and his ignorance of the horror of life on the testing floor with Dr. Mauer and Nurse Sandra Bernhard -- necessarily means he just isn't capable of reasoning through this, but God DAMN if it isn't frustrating as someone who was personally traumatized by Chikhai Bardo.

I wish Mark would've handled the Cabin situation better. But that would require someone other than Harmony (whose interests are not completely aligned with Mark's, I feel) and -- God bless her -- the terminally inept Devon.

If Asal Reghabi could only see where these bitches are at now... I hope she's in a bar somewhere muttering to herself about that fucking Scout family. I do hope we get to see her again, and maybe see her get a little damn appreciation from these people!
