Number One, is well, the one for me of the new songs. BOP.
Just given it a first spin and i found myself singing “Sick to my stomach” by Merci, Mercy when “Number one” came on the melody is so similar to me.
It’s a nicely little addition to Shania’s discography but nothing stood out massively (I think Now was a stronger album) but it sounds like she has found the right sound for her more lower and raspier tone.
Will always have a soft spot for Shania regardless.
I think CD only. The Target vinyl doesn't appear to have the bonus tracks, either.
All those who reviewed this album negatively shall burn in hell. Some of the more negative reviews baffled me. Some of them reek of sexism and ageism as if she can’t have fun at 57. Also criticising her lyrics for being a bit simple and random when this is the same woman who gave us
“okay so you’re Brad Pitt. That don’t impress me much.”
“Even my skin is acting weird. I wish I could grow a beard.”
“You can put a hole in my shoe”
Nonsensical lyrics are her signature. Happy songs with odd lyrics.
Pretty Liar is amazing.Pretty Liar is on replay all day long!! Oh my god
Jumping in with more The Hardest Stone praise. I agree that it's one of the best things across both recent albums, as well as a sonic shift that actually works. The sax fills are beautiful, and the chord progression at 2:36 is perfectly melancholic for the closing track of the album.
Other favs:
Nothing New - Another instance where melody and production are so much more interesting than the recycled sounds of Brand New or Best Friend.
Inhale / Exhale AIR - This feels like an Up! track. It has that playful yet inspirational tone. It's Shania in anthemic mode. The all caps of AIR reminds me of her exclamation tendencies.
Last Day of Summer - I would love another ballad on the album, but I really love her voice on this one.
Done & Dusted - Catchy! Deserves a spot on the actual album.
Giddy Up! - The lity in the cup line is just... I'll get over it. It's been in my head all day.
