Shaznay Lewis - Pages

In another world people would be doing everything to get her to write a song for them.

She is everything. This album is such a nice surprise. There is really not a single dud here. I really do not mind this album sounding so All Saints in many places.

And I am sorry Shaz but:
Producers: How many violins do you want?
Shaznay: Yes.

What a killer album, not a dud in sight. And it’s perfect for the start of summer. I still really wish it was an All Saints album, I keep imagining the others’ voices and harmonies on several tracks but I’ll get over it - I respect that she’s gone for it solo. And she’s probably delivered her best, most cohesive album yet?

Supposed To Be immediately jumped out at me, give me that sunny self-empowering jam I love.

Does anyone know when the Banquet personalised vinyl is likely to ship (or if it’s been signed yet)?

Holding out listening to the album until it arrives but I’m desperate to listen!
She’ll probably be going down at some point next week to do them. They’ll dispatch before Friday next week for charting, so if you don’t wanna wait potentially 7 days then just listen now.

I haven't had time to listen to this yet but, hum, is that Self Esteem feature just a voice memo at the beginning of the song?
Yes.

The track’s opening features a short monologue by Rebecca Lucy Taylor who worked with Hugo on her last two Self Esteem records. An intimate and emotional voice message, it sits in line with Taylor’s own assured ideals whilst also acting as a thematic introduction to the core of Pages. “I said to him [Hugo], ‘I feel like I want somebody to do a short talking part, do you know anybody?’ He said, ‘Rebecca will be perfect on this,’” she explains. “We had no time. The album had already started to get mixed. Obviously she's super busy, she's in the middle of doing her thing. At the eleventh hour she sent it over and thank god it was so perfect we didn't need to ask her to do it again. We didn't need to change anything or edit. It was just perfect as it was.”

I wish I could have gone to the show but it would have been a pain to get to and from. I've got the vinyl and CD arriving today. Listening to it now on the laptop. Supposed to Be is bloody great. Missiles and Kiss of Life also standouts. Really happy we've got a whole new album.

Really hope she pulls out a last minute in-store signing somewhere but I'm not getting my hopes up. Surely an afternoon at Rough Trade East?!

Pick You Up, Tears to the Floor, Peaches - of the ones we hadn't heard before, these are the ones that stuck with me the most.

But the album as a whole is magnificent. Shaznay's talent continues to impress.
