Shaznay Lewis - Pages

It's an interesting one that this album was completely overlooked. For me, it houses some stellar songs.
To be fair the PR/promo game was awful. Good album but it was always gonna get lost without any push. Kiss of Life is one of the songs of the year.

They seemed to fizzled out annoyingly. I’m still dying to know what Awake (Motu) means.
There was an interview where the song is mentioned:

Brooding with a strict backbone of deep drums, it allows Lewis’ message the space for direct narration. “‘Awake’ is about what's going on now. It's how conscious we've all become and just about talking to people like my children. How are we going to move in this world? Are we going to be inspired to try and make change in the little way that we can, or are we just going to sit back and accept what's going on?” Lewis says.

But that's the most I can find

he/him
To have and hold
And give you migraines

My 87th most played song of the year according to Spotify! Smasha.

I loved the album but if I'm completely honest, I find her sometimes quite hit and miss with her live performances. Sometimes it feels like she's just not that confident on stage and her voice falters. I think overall promo was lacking too and the music videos were always quite boring and not worth a second watch. If there's more solo music to come I hope they can inject some more fun into the whole thing and give her a bigger push.

Well, videos were what they were because this was some (good) vanity project whose main budget was spent on the music itself.

As it should be for an artist like her. I just don’t consider Shaznay a visual storyteller, it’s all through the lyrics/her voice.

When I saw her at Hoopla, I was pleasantly surprised at how well her vocals held up. I kind of thought some of the tracks where she uses her higher head voice was a bit of studio trickery but hearing her nail Kiss of Life live proved me wrong!
