She's Marina, We're The Diamonds, And That Was The Rate [Finalized]

That "Teen Idle" commentary was beautiful, @Dijah.

Losing 'I Am Not A Robot' & 'Teen Idle' back is interesting, just based on my recent personal observations seeing her live. Both of those songs got very big crowd reactions, but I was surprised that Teen Idle actually seemed to get a bigger response live than Robot. I was like, 'well, this is interesting.' I like the song, but it's not really a fave... so I guess didn't really realize how popular it truly was with her fan base. It shows how your own album prejudices color what you think is more popular, even though I should probably know better by now! Electra Heart wasn't really my fave Marina-era, so I guess I probably discount its impact more than I should.

Anyway, FROOT rising to the top in this rate is what she deserves!

Oh well, it made it to the top 10, so that's pretty good?

'Teen Idle' for me is kinda, sorta, exactly what I look for in a pop song. It's melodramatic, over the top and camp, but also has a real emotional edge to it... especially when it slows down and Electra admits/realises -

"I wish I didn't really kiss
the mirror when I'm on my own...
Oh god
I'm. Going. To. Die. Alone."

Even though "Teen Idle" isn't among my favorites from "Electra Heart", it's pleasing to see it in the top 10. Deserves the accolade of the highest placing album track, too (although many other songs deserved it more).
I wish it didn't get so uplifting in the melody (except for that 'super, super, super suicidal' part, which is juxtaposition at its finest). For example, "Valley of the Dolls", while not having the darkest production possible ("Electra Heart" doesn't really have any pitch-black moments when it comes to production), has that sad melody that fits the lyrics and the atmosphere perfectly and that's the only thing that "Teen Idle" misses to me completely amazing. The song grew on me, actually, and I would've given it a 9 now.

I remember stumbling across that video of her singing the song to the kids and it was a hilarious, amazing and WTF moment at the same time. Only Marina could do that and that's why I love her. The moment that cracks me up the most is how right after she sings 'a 21st century whore' it cuts to the children clapping. Priceless.
