I love it so much.
I actually don't think it does all that much. Hatchie's album is a lot brighter and less cluttered (that sounds like a negative assessment of Don't Forget but I promise it's not). The melodies are also classic Sky through and through to me.I mean this sounds exactly like the new Hatchie album right?
Now that you say it, I can hear Hatchie.
Am I right in thinking this song has been sat on for years? I guess it’d only be a matter of time until someone beat her to it, despite the suggested label issues.
Good to have Sky back though with a banger, I just hope we don’t go back to radio silence.
To be fair a lot of artists have been sitting on new music because of Covid, so it’s not exclusively Sky, my favourite bands new album was ready to go at the beginning of 2020 and it’s only just been released. And it’s completely understandable because they want to be able to tour the album etc.I don't think it's fair to say she's just been sitting on these songs doing nothing for years. Yes, the demo may date back to 2016 but she's been funding sessions and changing production and mixing and mastering up until literally two months ago. She definitely takes her music seriously.
Dd, I was about to post this. I’d love to know why she rerecorded the whole thing in 2020 since it sounded like it was finished and ready to go around the time of Downhill Lullaby’s release.Stereogum's post said the final version of Don't Forget was only recorded in 2020 so if that's true, she must have gone through a few versions before that.
Mood. This makes me want to go and burn down someone's house. She's done it.
I don’t know if you noticed by now, but I’m very picky.
“Don’t Forget” Is Sky Ferreira’s Bland Return
After teasing us three years ago with “Downhill Lullaby,” Sky Ferreira has finally returned with “Don’t Forget,” the second single from her upcoming, much-delayed album Masochism. Unfortunately, the song is pretty bland. Skimming the surface of her rock-tinged roots, the track leans into trendy ’80s-revival production and Tumblr-cliche lyricism about “sick dreams” and being a “real bad girl.” But even with its throbbing bassline, glowing synths, and relentless My Bloody Valentine-esque drums, “Don’t Forget” is a little too reminiscent of Ferreira’s now nine-year-old debut Night Time, My Time; if anything, it feels like a Night Time cutting-room floor scrap, lifelessly dolled up and postured as if for a Weekend at Sky’s. “Don’t Forget” is produced by Jorge Elbrecht and mastered by Heba Kadry, who try to ratchet up the synth pop-inflected grunginess of her iconic debut into a new wave headbanger. However, they are thwarted in this task by vague lyrics that shut the door on the honest, breathless fury that made Ferreira’s debut such a magnetic listen. Despite its title, the song is pretty unmemorable.
