Sky Ferreira - "Leash" + General Discussion

If she was able to pull a song together in a few months for Babygirl (and really didn’t dust it off from the vaults) I hope she’ll consider pursuing more film and commercial work. It seems like deadlines and writing to a brief could be a good fit for her.

For her to talk about A24 having different mixing preferences and ultimately not melt down when the song comes out seems like a meaningful step away from her paralyzing perfectionism. She was ill, understandably remains slightly stuck mentally, probably truly is difficult for whatever reasons… and still delivered a soundtrack song on time and didn’t complain about having a little creative control taken back from her. Progress is progress.

She has that thing. So fucking glad she's still here, and can still thrill.

and thank you to whomever up thread also hears the ghosts of Curve in her sounds DNA. glad I'm not alone on this. would love to hear her tackle Fait Accompli.

I need Sky to follow through with a video or live performance (or that second single) because anytime this moment comes across my ears…

Leash really still hits as hard as it does on first listen for me. It sounds like an explosion; firing on all cylinders from the get-go, never letting that energy up for one second during the whole four minutes, not only sustaining it but enriching it by still structurally playing tricks to make it dynamic and thrilling. It's a song that keeps you on your toes.
It's such a satisfying listen - like the best Sky songs it kinda feels like being punched in the face but in a really good way? Also, the lyricism? Literally poetry.

God, I love her so much. Here's hoping the positive reception will lead her to giving us more gems, and the label who shall not be named giving her back her Masochism demo stash.

The song is fantastic but other than a few interviews to promote it's release it looks pretty much done now, which is a shame considering a video would have kept it in the conversation for another month or two.

Maybe A24 have blown their Babygirl promo budget and there's nothing left for a video.

Yeah, sadly I think it was pretty much dead in the water once it didn't get shortlisted for that oscar. If we're not getting an official video, I wish she would do an acoustic set or something to promote it at least. Surely that wouldn't be expensive to do at all. I know she's our fave doom gremlin who hates performing live, but just get her alone in a room with Jorge and the band and an iPhone 13 Pro Max or whatever and boom there's your video.

It’s not dead in the water yet - it’s still in heavy rotation in my apartment, where it has been number one for months. My poor neighbors…
