Slayyyter - STARFUCKER

Reading some of the posts made by POC in this thread, voicing their disappointment at yet another white (female) pop star being problematic, has been a bit sobering this morning. Like with the Camila situation, it's not my place to tell whether her apology is genuine/good enough ... but when an apology fails to address the people you've actually hurt, it probably isn't.

I really liked Slayyyter's album, but at the same time I feel like nothing of value was lost. I'm also ... not surprised at all, for some reason. Lemme replace her album in my playlist with someone else.

Girls I need help. I just heard 2003 for the first time and I’m obsessed but I refuse to listen/stream. Who/what’s a good alternative? I’ve added Liz, Hana, Hannah Diamond, and Caroline Polachek to my rotation but I need something grimier. Mortal Kombat/The Prodigy teas.

I'm kidding. Kind of.

Wait what did Ayesha do?

Well not only is she cut from the same cloth all these white Y2K girls are, therefore she undoubtedly shares the same edgy early 2000s “humor” as they all do, but sis literally sings about drugging and raping someone in one of her songs. As I said back when Robokid was called out for his inappropriate behavior/allegedly assaulting someone, all these people are problematic – it’s really up to you to pick your poison.

Everyone needs an electric chair at this point.

I see your point. It sucks that we basically have to play a game of Minesweeper when it comes to the internet pop artists. Having to assume everyone is guilty until proven innocent is bleak.

I mean, most people will excuse their own behavior as long as they have 1-2 friends that'll cape for them. It's fucking gross but so many people, especially since I've moved to NYC, really lack what I would call a worthy moral compass. Coke, (date) rape, assault, all types of harassment... I've seen so much shittiness and people just accept it. I've learned that people are just narcissistic self-absorbed pieces of shit unless they demonstrate otherwise. At this point nothing surprises me.

This whole Slayyyter time made me bothered by the whole Y2K sound. I need some time off before I can listen to LIZ and some other acts again
