Slayyyter - STARFUCKER

Not like you can make out the whole song from such a short clip, but the teasers had me expecting something a bit more... cinematic/atmospheric I guess? It does sound like a bop though.

Yeah, I don't hear "Style" or "Your Type" either. The snippet sounds significantly more up-tempo than both of those examples.

It’s way closer to what The Weeknd or even Kim Petras was doing recently
If you mean Kim's Future Starts Now I don't hear that at all. If this was her take on French disco then it's not looking bright. It's a lot more 80s pop (again, like Carly), but it also smells like label mandated single, considering all she's said about begging the label not to give up on the album.

I mean, the entirety of Kim’s scrapped Problematique album and Turn Off The Light are heavy in this exact same sound. It’s French house and synthwave, not disco by any means, and it pretty much nails it.

“Stupid Love”? Let’s be serious for a moment
You're the one saying it sounds close to anything Kavinsky has ever done DD like I wish but that's not what it is!! But I figure this discussion is more about perception and we definitely need the final product to judge.

I believe that concern mainly came from the entire album leaking again.

People who have had the songs have said everything was finalized and in their possession as early as like.. November 2022. I believe one thing the label made her do, that people claim, is cut the album from 14 tracks to 12, which is how "Tommy" & 'Make Up" got cut.

But like... this is largely the sound of the album. And yeah, this could only be like... Carly-like if Carly Rae Jepsen suddenly decided to just do a bunch of coke ddd. "Style" is an even weirder comparsion.

The synths are the exact same. Slayyyter’s take is more uptempo for sure but the inspiration is there and the woman herself has said as much.

So what are we gonna do now?

Oh yeah I saw her citing those as inpos. Again, it doesn't change the fact that that preview sounds nothing like Kavinsky to me, and I'm familiar with his work, so again - it's more a matter of perception... Kavinsky is gritty, nocturnal, almost brooding at times, while the preview was giving more this.

Probably wait for the single to come out so I can finally see the light you are trying to show me!

Style, Future Starts Now, Love Me Harder, Do What U Want, Hold On We’re Going Home, Higher, etc. You do realize these are all pulling from the same pool of references? The things you hear in common with these tracks (the chugging synths specifically, I’m sure) are also sounds that are common in a lot of synthwave and French house tracks. She’s not out to make a Kavinsky track, she simply cited him and others within the genre as inspiration.
