Solid HarmoniE

I was listening to To Love Once Again the other day for what I assumed was the first time, but the chorus sounded ridiculously familiar to me and my friends, so I was just wondering if someone has covered this or whether a number 55 smash just actually used to get played back in the day?

It hasn't been covered as far as I remember, but the Max Martin and co songs in the day all have that familiar sound to them. I was a massive fan of Solid HarmoniE back in the day and I only ever saw the video for To Love Once Again on cable channel The Box...

Maybe it is just that then, it's amazing just how many Jive songs you can sing 'Tearin' Up My Heart' to.

I always loved the song and used to think the chorus (well actually all of it) was very much ABBA's The Winner Takes It All (like both One For Sorrow and After The Love Has Gone from Steps were as well).

I need to get hold of their remixes - especially the 1 for I Want You To Want Me. I got particular usage out of that 1 a couple of summers ago, but it was on cassette. It sounds less sugar-coated and passive, into a gurning, tribal dancefloor mission statement.

The extended I Wanna Love You is indeed bliss - with their singles they didn't put a foot wrong.

But I thought To Love Once Again wasn't a Max Martin track? Most of the album tracks that I've got all pale in comparison to his tracks, but I do like this one. You've Got The Flava is almost a bit N-Tyce in it's possible tribue to TLC.

To Love Once Again is a Max track but I Wanna Love You isnt. I think I Wanna Love you is still at Cheiron though, but with Kristian Ludin.

You've Got The Flava is amazing and uses the same sample as J.Lo's Get Right to a less annoying effect.

I remember the first time I heard ...Baby One More Time. I thought it was a new Solid HarmoniE single when I heard it on the radio.
To Love Once Again was ok. I prefer the album version to the single version though.

I love this song. I remember in Smash Hits, the review said something like, if it were sung by the Spice Girls, it''d be #1 like a shot for weeks. So true.

Their album also has some cracking comedy moments - ''When We Kiss'' being one of them, and another one with a lyric like, "I''m waiting at my door for you wearing a negligee and your favourite perfume". Special!

On the other hand, it also has ''You Got That Flava'' which, whilst terribly dated even at the time, is all kinds of pop brilliance and redeems any bad moves they made.

I''ll Be There For You kicks ass and is surely one of the finest pop songs ever written. Their name literally defines their superior position in pop, especially on I Wanna Love You when the chorus is sung.

I used to love Solid HarmoniE they had great singles & the album was fab even though I had to pay about £16 for it & Virgin had to order it for me. Don't think they ever got promoted enough so didn't really sell that well. Was gutted they got dropped. Anyone else remember them?

Yes. They were amazing. I still play their album quite regularly to this day. I miss the days when a pop act could have three singles barely dent the top 20 and one reach the dizzy heights of the top 55 and still be allowed to release an album.

'When We Kiss (Missing You)' is absolutely hilarious and worth the album alone. I'll always remember Smash Hits reviewing 'I Wanna Love You' and saying if it was the Spice Girls it'd be huge - too true. Absolutely fucking amazing song.

I too paid about £16 for my copy of the album. Detective Sandy just robbed it off me.

Oh, did you buy it in the end? I never knew.

Also, the Jake & Jesse mix of 'I Wanna Love You' is, like, aural sex. It's fantastic!

did they do that "I Want You To Want Me" song? It was in one of those free CDs with Smash Hits when I was in school (I'm too old for Smash Hits but I still miss it. These kids don't know what they're missing) and I liked it. Think it was them anyway

I buy practically everything you send me. I'm getting Lisa Loeb for Christmas.

And yes, they did I Want You To Want Me.

I love that you can sing Tearin' Up My Heart over almost all of the album.
