#soon! Part Un - The 60s-00s Girl Band Debut Breakthrough Rate

Awesome hosting job, @berserkboi! It's hard to believe this was your first hosting gig - your level of consistency and thoroughness in writing elimination posts has been amazing to see. It was a pleasure being one of your backup hosts, and thank you for the opportunity to do a guest elimination a few weeks ago.

Having had access to your complete results spreadsheet since reveals started, I have to admit I was shook to see that Be My Baby had won, especially when it was up against the likes of perennial PJ favorites Girls Aloud, the Sugababes, the Spice Girls, etc.

Flatline existing is all the reward I need! ;)

They could at least send you all the unreleased demos.

How fitting that a rate that celebrates debuts from the 60s to the 00s ends with a 60s recap! The list we had here shows quite a bit of variety in the songs presented, not in subject matter per se but in expression - although the likes of gospel and doo wop are quite evident in music styles, the voices are crisp and clear without the auto-tuning we have in today's music. This to a large degree helps with the relatability of the songs that not only connected with a generation, but paved the way for today's music!

Many of our acts had a tougher start than expected with their career not lasting, or facing course correction - echoing what we still see in many flop acts we celebrate around here at PopJustice. The decade's top 3 are some of the best music that has been made accessible mass market bar none so it is extremely satisfying they got the top 3 with two deservedly making the overall top 5 and the musical template & landmark Be My Baby taking the crown! Since this was a bit of a stab in the dark endeavour, there was not really any way to know which act would do amazingly. On name alone maybe Labelle or The Supremes were it but the top notch quality of Martha & The Vandellas, The Shirelles and The Ronettes are more than worthy medallists! A fantastic list, this was easily my overall favourite so I hope you all enjoyed it nearly as much.

Now, the only #soon! to fear in my final thought, coming shortly.

The result we got to is thanks to you all. Thanks for participating and trusting me to bring you this result and rate. It made me extremely happy to be your host, and I think we all did very well sustaining the thread for the duration of the rate, making sure each reveal was palpable and greatly dissected. It was a privilege to bring forward a rate that combined my favourite things about this forum - Girl Band appreciation and love for old music (like a rate version of a PJOPs round). Many thanks to @londonrain and @Mina for being very reliable back-up hosts! Some of your kind words either here on this thread or via private message have made my day and I cannot wait for us all to do it all again in Part 2 (Preview of that list #soon!)
