#soon! Part Un - The 60s-00s Girl Band Debut Breakthrough Rate

I'll have lots more to say as the decades get older but at the moment people seem to be basing the suggested entries on their subjective tastes. If the criteria is 'signature song' then in most cases the entry should be pretty clear cut or at least a choice between 2 or 3. Girls Aloud's signature song is in no way Untouchable much as we may wish it was. Love Machine or The Promise are surely the options.

Same goes for the Sugababes. Push The Button or the oddly overlooked so far, Freak Like Me seem to be the obvious candidates. Nothing else comes close.

Ultimately its up to @berserkboi but everyone should take their personal opinions out of the equation and go with the song that has had the most cultural impact in general, not just in your own head.

@berserkboi and I know how well Freak Like Me performed in Australia, It peaked at #44 unfortunately.
Round Round stormed the radio and after that and it became their first global breakthrough for Sugababes 2.0.

THIS^^^

There is no good reason for One Hit Wonders whose signature song has already been used to feature again. We's be much better of including more than one song by acts with multiple signature songs or throwing in a few oddities like Flatline to make things more interesting.

I don't mind this idea and would be willing to go with this. That would mean Las Ketchup, Tatu, Peaches, Baccara out at first thought (a few more could be too). Funnily enough the Baccara follow-up most likely sold more than ASAP or Damaged and those are staying in! KII!!!

My thoughts for replacement would be other 'one hit signature' girl band who don't get much of a feature so Mary Mary with Shackles (Praise You) and maybe Girl Thing with Last One Standing? Flatline is indeed then on the cards but would that be unfair to other acts who are stuck with one hit when the Sugababes kinda get two? Also would this lead to cannibalising for the act as some try to tank one hit for the other to do better (another worry of this would be All Saints having both Never Ever and Pure Shores)?

@berserkboi - I still think The Saturdays should be represented by a solo effort in this rate, so I'd be more inclined to say Up or All Fired Up. All Fired Up is usually their highest rated song in any rate they're are involved in which I think is an element that should hold water when discussing a group's 'signature' song. Like why Pure Shores should represent All Saints for example.

This is just my two cents though, I'm not trying to say it has to be this way or not.

This bridge has already been crossed with Bananarama (and likely to be in part 2 for the Emotions too) so I cannot make the exception just for The Saturdays, wouldn't be fair, sorry...

Also - 90s List coming #soon!

No, sadly just the German speaking countries (they were huge in @Filippa-land), but you might get @Vixen to vote if you include them.

(I forgot about that stipulation in all honesty)
Yes they were: No Angels and Monrose, both from the same casting show, only different seasons .... Both far away from any hit in the English speaking countries but really huge here ...

Now you've mentioned it, this must be included.

Also, if All Fired Up is the choice for The Saturdays, then I'm warning you all that I'm probably gonna 0 it. I low-key hate it and you all always overrate it like hell.
Petty-Solete is still my very favourite thing in the world <3

At least this means you are voting!! <3

Why would Baccara be out? They have Sorry, I'm A Lady which is not only a smash hit but also a work of unparalleled genius.

These all seem suitable. I'd deffo go No Scrubs over Waterfalls as it definitely feels more iconic but either one is a fine choice.

SWV are a funny one as Weak was by far the bigger hit yet Right Here definitely seems like their signature song.

Who would be up for the chop overall?

Maybe we should just discuss as we go through the decades. All of the 90's seems safe and don't know enough about the obscure 00's ones to have an opinion.

General rule I would think is if their signature song was used first time round and they don't have another hit that fits the original criteria they should go.

If bands like Las Ketchup and t.A.T.u. clearly don't have a signature song that wasn't in the first part of the rate already, here's some other options for the 00s:

Aly & AJ - Potential Breakup Song
The 411 - Dumb or On My Knees
Mini Viva - I Left My Heart in Tokyo or I Wish
Girls Can't Catch - Keep Your Head Up
Dream - He Loves U Not
3LW - No More (Baby I'ma Do Right)

I second these! He Loves U Not was #2 in the US, if it means anything.

t.A.T.U.'s Not Gonna Get Us was an absolute bop. They don't give me "one hit wonder" as much as, say, Las Ketchup.

Yes, Right Here for SWV please! With TLC I'd personally go for No Scrubs over Waterfalls but both are incredible. I'm sad that Rollercoaster is B*Witched's second biggest hit... I'll tank that because it's not Blame It on the Weatherman.
